    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

But, but, but... don't you know that will cause massive inflation, because I know I've read letters in Numi News from our mathematically challenged brethren saying that it will.

I always thought getting rid of the cent was a bad idea because of sales tax, in Kentucky sales tax is 6% and if they did away with the cent sales tax here would have to be dropped to 5 % and I don't think states with sales tax that would have to be lowered would like it, other states that have a 8% sales tax would have to raise to 10% and it would probably tick off the people who live in those states. I may be wrong but that's just a guess why they don't do away with the cent.

Every Canadian province (except Alberta and the northern ones) has sales tax and they did away with the penny just fine.

No one is going to change a tax rate for this. Electronic purchases would not change and cash purchased would be rounded to the nearest 5 cents.

Correction, no one would lower the tax rate for this. Whether it was an excuse to up it for better round numbers you would have to implement it to see what lawmakers do and time would tell

Fast forward to the ANA Summer Spectacular 2017, PCGS Certified 2016 Lincoln Cent Struck on I-95 Toll Card believed to be commingled from the accident in Delaware sells for record $53,000. :p
