Hello All I am new here, but I was going through all my quarters and found an odd one. One side of this coin is substantially thinner than normal, it almost looks like someone may have hammered it or it was produced flawed at the mint. Any comments or questions would be appreciated. Thank-you
Welcome to the neighborhood, Caroline! It appears to be the result of post-mint damage (PMD) and is only worth face value. Chris
Hi Folks I really appreciate your taking time to comment. I have just started going through a 3 year collection of pocket change so perhaps I will have a few more to put up and ask a question. Thanks, Caroline
Hi Your right it was a guess on my part. I think it is interesting quarter because it must have a history of why it was changed deliberately by someone. I also thought someone just sat and used one side scraping away or something like that. I thought or prisons and chain gangs. I've never tried it so not sure how long it would take to change it that much. Or it could have been put underneath the leg of some machinery for balance?
