I see no reason to believe it's fake from these pictures. Looks heavily crystallized though, be careful not to drop it as it will likely break if you do.
I am kind of new to ancients too, read a lot of the CT forum to help form your opinions, buy what you like and if it is going to be expensive, seek the advice of the CT mavens.
I would stay away from eBay until you know ancients a little better unless you're buying from reputable dealers.
Some of the first ancients I bought from e-bay were uncleaned and I learned a bit about them as I tried to clean them. Don't pay a lot if you do this. When in doubt, post a picture and ask!!!
Oh, and try to post your coin "before" you buy it and regret it!! ... sure, there is an outside chance that some slime-bag will snipe your OP-topic coin, but I rarely/never see that happen on this sweet site ... => so if in doubt, post any "non-live-auction" coin .... we're always glad to give coin-advice (we're actually addicted to helping!!)
I agree not often will you get sniped on here, in fact I've had members message me about coins I might be interested that saw up for auction. I'm learning about ancients myself just because of the history and the stories behind them. I'm in no way criticizing our purchase but I can't imagine spending $20 let alone $57 for a coin you can hardly see the details of. JMHO
Are we even sure this is Julius Caesar? I'm not recognising any JC type here, although I don't doubt the coin is at least ancient.
I have to disagree with Steve on one point. I frequently have bids set with a Snipe engine that will be placed 5 seconds before a lot closes. If You post a question about a coin and I go buy it out from under you, I'm a "slime-bag" but if you post a coin that I have had a snipe set on for several days, am I expected to go in an cancel my bid order so as to avoid being a "slime-bag" in Steve's eyes? I believe it is inappropriate to post ANY link to ANY auction that has not closed. If you do not know whether you want a coin or not, don't bid on it. You can buy fixed price coins from full service dealers and you can ask, via private message 'Conversation', individual members you trust but an general open post is more likely to cause bad feelings than it is to help you build a collection.

I said don't ever post a "live" auction coin (end of story) ... get your game together, Mentor (c'mon!!) ... but if some dude posts a vcoin example and you then you trounce-off and buy it, then you're a slime-bag ... If some dude posts a live-auction coin, then f-him (there are no rules, other than first come first serve) ... as you are well aware, I tend to send PM's if I think that I may be infringing upon another collector's turf ... => anyway (pfft) ... I assume that OP coin is meant to be a Venus/trophy denarius----genuine as far as I can tell... but far too worn and environmentally damaged to be worth the purchase price----and I'm known for buying some very low grade examples LOL You might visit the FORVM free auction site for some inexpensive coins to consider before venturing into the usual auctions at CNG, Agora etc etc and you might PM a CT member(s) about some of the e-Bay sellers we have purchased from in the past---some are questionable and quite a few are highly recommended....and our CT member JA @John Anthony has auctions here ending almost every Thursday and several others here sell or trade coins as well.
