I would look at actual dimensional size difference before flipping out over Kurts exaggerations...
Heres the gold merc next to a real merc (that we supposedly needed a microscope to see.). 1.4 mm diameter diff. But weighs 0.6 gram more than a merc.

Exaggerations, huh? Let's go to the numbers, shall we?

    Torn from another thread:

Gold SLQ .866 in. 22 mm
    Nickel .835 in. 21.21 mm
    Quarter .955 in. 24.26 mm

Care to reconsider post #41 yet?

Size differences are more dramatic with the larger coins. The gold SLQ is 22 mm in diameter, while a quarter is 24.3 mm. A nickel is 21.2 mm. The gold WLH stands to be almost 3 mm smaller in diameter than a real half dollar.

Yup, and just wait for the half. We know what a properly sized gold half weighs - .75oz. (The 2014 Kennedy) This WLH will be .50 oz. Think the difference will be minor? It's pure chemistry, Vess.

Actually, they already slightly undersized the Kennedy. A true size match would have weighed 0.77 oz, but they "shaved" some off of even the gold Kennedy.

But fear ye not. Perhaps Lighthouse or some other capsule maker can design a capsule with a magnifying lens top, so the coins can "look" correctly sized.:rolleyes::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

I have no doubt the 2 mm difference ruins it for some. I've said I would've preferred 90% versions to get the size right but it won't stop me from wanting a pure gold version. This argument is about like trying to change people's minds on who to vote for. May as well end the thread because the arguments are wasting server space.

90% wouldn't come anywhere near solving the problem. The specific gravities of gold and silver are just that radically different. Yeah, it's kind of "science-y" and not subject to policy making.

No, they could have done that, by planning to do that from the get go and obviously not announcing that it would be regular weights, when they do not make sense for the coinage.

Yes, that is is the poor planning I was referring to. Was it a surprise that there was a 2016 that came after 2015? Was it a surprise that it was the 100th anniversary of some of the most popular US coinage of all time and that they should strike commemoratives? This should have been thought of years in advance and a bill should have been introduced to accommodate this need well in advance. Like I said, poor planning.

Problem is - the weights were the initial selling point of the program, not matching the sizes. Was that dumb? Yes.

The Congress was wholly uninterested in the entire idea, or they would have done a bill. They weren't and didn't. Congress doesn't do ANYTHING that doesn't aid themselves in some way or another, either monetarily or to please a constituency. They had no coin people clamoring to write campaign checks for this idea.

Even though silver wasn't an option, I believe platinum was which would have at least had the silver look

True, not only that, but it could have been a little cheaper, too. But then again, platinum has an even BIGGER specific gravity problem than gold does. There is only ONE alloy that could have avoided the SG problem - 10K white gold, but that also would have required a new law.

Is sending them to PCGS after I get them a good or a bad plan?

The size thing doesn't bother me as much some others as long as it's close. I always thought the gold was a bit of a strange choice and they don't utilize platinum enough but the quality is what turned me off.

For resale or keeping and how many are you sending?

The best plan is to sell to dealer who will be needing them in quantity immediately upon receipt. Then buy a graded one in a few months if you still want one. You'll be way ahead of sending it for grading yourself.

Hopefully, you're as wrong about the "Flipping" as you are about Dolphins being fish.

Garlicus Debt is dumb, cash is king.

So, you think that 60 million dollars is needed to plan, produce, package and market 100,000 coins, AFTER you purchased the gold planchets? Yes, I know that there is general overhead, as well, but the premium seems a little excessive to me. I'm thinking that a $100 premium would still net them at least $1 million profit.

That being said, if I liked it enough, I would had paid their asking price....maybe.

I don't know what they have in it. Just think it should at least be acknowledged.

Dolphins are mammals. HOWEVER, "Dolphin Fish" is another name for Mahi Mahi and is a fish.

How would you like your crow? Roasted or Fried??

Or with the egg sauce to put on your face.

You see, before there was an "Internet" or links, there were these things called "books", from which we read things and learned things. There were also things called "V-8 engines"' which were installed in passenger cars, which frequently didn't even HAVE seatbelts, which our families used to haul aluminum structures called Airstreams, which we used as temporary housing when we traveled to Florida and watched fishermen actually filet "DOLPHIN" into Mahi Mahi chunks for eating.

Several years later, we invented fire.
