So I turned on the first episode of Narcos, and they say it takes place in 1989:

Next thing you know, there's a shot of a bunch of paper bills, including some 10 dollar bills that date at least from 1992:

Who cares? Nobody! But I just thought it was interesting.

Good eyes. I see it commonly in movies and shows as well. I remember a western once set in the 1860's and a guy threw a morgan down on the counter. :(

I find attention to detail to be deficient in many areas of life nowadays, not just this.

"Attention to detail." "Always be aware of your surroundings." Directives that my father's father taught him, my father taught me, and I passed on to my sons. "Put things back where you found them." has been a bit harder to pass on. As noted by Medoraman above, good catch for Hotwheelsearl. Mistakes such as the money escape most people when watching TV or a movie. Most people merrily bop along on their way, but a select few home in on details that they study or hold as an area of expertise. Marines, for example, will immediately catch the smallest incorrect detail of a military uniform. Money experts such as Hotwheelsearl and Medoraman will immediately catch details related to money and likely many other things as well. Keep on hammering the TV and movie producers !
