    Hi, y'all.

I signed up here in 2007 but only just started using this account and posting. So I'm a "nine-year newbie"!

Many of y'all know me from the PCGS/Collectors Universe site, and I recognize a number of your usernames.

However, for those of you I don't know, or who use a different username here than on CU, I thought I'd say "hi" and do a modest giveaway.

There will be TEN winners, drawn by random number generator, on or shortly after September 21, 2016.

    (Yay! Fall is finally coming!)

To enter, simply post once to say "hi" and tell me as
much or as little about yourself and/or your collecting as you like.

If you are a past or present Collectors Universe member and using a different name here, let me know who you are and maybe we'll remember each other!

    Now, for the prizes.

    There is one numismatic prize.

This is an elongated Indian cent (pre-1901) made as a souvenir for the 1901 Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, NY. It was at this exposition that President McKinley was assassinated. This piece shows the Manufacturing and Liberal Arts building and the reverse is an advertisement for Armour's "Dainty Canned Meats". Armour is still around, of course, but in 1901 I'll bet their meats were anything but "dainty", since that was a few years before Upton Sinclair exposed the nastier side of the meatpacking industry in his 1906 book The Jungle, which led to widespread reforms in federal food safety legislation.

Since the lotto ticket portion of this giveaway is not exactly numismatic, it is void if deemed inappropriate by the moderators here. I am still pretty green on this site and do not to wish to step on any toes or cause trouble.

(*Edited for typographical or hyperlink corrections only.)

Yeah, that part is a problem and was edited out. But no you didn't step on any toes or cause any harm. Just pick something else for your additional prizes.

As a general rule, contests are okay as long as participants are not required to contribute anything in order to play the game.

    Okay! I'm in!

FWIW, I got started collecting in a poolroom in 1957 at the age of 10. I won $5 playing 9-Ball and the 16 year old I was playing gave me a silver dollar as part of the payment. It was the first time that I had ever seen one. (Later on I learned that it was a Morgan dollar.) I went to the bank where I had a savings account and asked the teller if she had any more like it. She spread out a bunch on the counter, and I got four more with the rest of my winnings. From then on, I made it part of my routine to go to the bank to exchange some of my winnings for more silver dollars. By the time the early 60's rolled around, I had accumulated more than 400.

I also have a collection of shot glasses......

and a collection of casino chips.....

Yep, I read that. Only contribution necessary here is a hello, really. But those who want to can give a nice informational post like you did.

PS- Nice colorful collection you have there. I love the curio cabinet. I might have a casino token or two lying around. I'll look.

"Hi". I collect world coins mostly by topical/themed collections. "Coins with insects" is my favorite. "Coins with hands", "Coins with certain stars", "coins with small coins as the design itself". I have a huge Misc. section in my world coins too. I like mercury dimes. I also collect cat figurines. I love cats. I have 3 amazing cats. I work at Walmart in receiving, unload trucks and stock freight. that's about all I want to say for now.

    Hello,
I have read your posts on the
    PCGS forum for many years.
What got me started in following your postings was your collecting coins with holes. Also very interesting to me was your metal detector finds. Although I don't post much over there my name is nutmeg. I live in Connecicut.
I'm glad you have decided to
    start participating on coin talk.

Hi @lordmarcovan , I'm a beginner collector, but I'm becoming increasingly enamored with the hobby. I got started collecting coins 3 yrs ago because I found a V nickel in pocket change. I also collect Boston Celtics memoribilia, most of that has more personal than financial value though. Welcome to CT

    Hello and welcome!

CoinTalk has been a real boon to my collection and how I experience this hobby. These days my passions are military trade tokens (and other forms of military money) and ancients. The trade token collection focuses on tokens issued by the Air Force but a few I've found interesting have found their way into my possession as well. The ancient collection is a bit more eclectic. Here are a couple random tokens & ancients:

    Hi!

I collected a bit when I was a kid, but I've been collecting more seriously for about 3 years now.

I'm slowly working on a U.S. Type Set (nothing too expensive... we have four kids, one of whom is in college). @John Anthony got me interested in Ancients.

I also enjoy CRH'ing, looking in coin reject trays, and fighting for loose change in fast-food drive-throughs.

Welcome! I recognize the name from the pcgs forums, but do not post there as much. I mainly collect gold. Mainly, $2 1/2 coins (I have over 100 of a certain date... its an obsession really). Indians are my favorite. I also like old rarer holders, and have recently been obsessed with toned gold.

    Sorry, but the rules
    https://www.cointalk.com/threads/holding-a-contest.5068/
    say :

Numismatically related means that the question, puzzle, riddle, trivia, or whatever, you are asking the members to solve or answer has to be about numismatics.

It can be as easy or as hard as you want to make it, but it has to be about numismatics - nothing else.

And having a numismatic prize does not make your contest numismatically related.

Since he said to enter you have to post about your COIN COLLECTING habits, I would say he is following the rules to a T.

Hi! Been collecting since the late 50's but getting educated, married, child-raising, moving 16 times, trying to earn a living doing many different things, trying to leave a legacy for my grandchildren (NOT just money) has very often curtailed my love of Walkers, Mercs, war nickels, etc. Hoping for a long retirement now to be more fully engaged with this fascinating hobby.

Well, I guess Jim has answered your question for you. I assume that the lottery tickets are out as prizes.

As far as the random drawing for the prizes is concerned, perhaps you can qualify the random winners by asking a numismatic-related question like, "How much is a quarter worth?"

Would that meet the CT criteria, James?

Hi, Lord Marcovan... So, we can consider you NOS (New Old Stock) since you've just been hanging around. I am one of the older members here (age - 71, not time of membership) and have never been, nor want to be, on other forums. Started collecting in the early 50's with change from a cash register in a restaurant where my family used to eat. Lots of Walkers, Standing Libs, Mercs and Buffs in those days. I collect by happenstance. Glad to have you here.

Seems like we have a more-or-less current thread about how we got started collecting and that was considered about numismatics.
