The future of the JFK half dollar

I realize no one can say what the U.S. Treasury will do in the future but just want your opinions on the future of this coin. All though not my favorite half dollar and before my time not to mention I'm not a democrat(not intended to be a political thread) however I personally like the coin and I am building a Dansco album of this set including proofs and silver proofs. With the high cost of the most recent years proofs and silver proofs it got me to thinking about how long will this coin continue. Generally speaking they are not used much at all in general circulation, banks don't like dealing with them, some businesses may not even accept them, etc.
How long will it continue to be made with JFK on it?
Will made at the same size?
Will the half dollar coin be discontinued all together?
Just curious your thoughts.

Just like the penny they will be made forever even after the human race has succeeded in becoming extinct.

The status quo is inviolable.

 

The mint makes money on these coins, yet they lose money on cents and nickels. That might help answer this.
The question is why do we keep making the cent? The nickel will still be around, needed more than the cent.

 

The US Treasury only mints what Congress' laws dictate they mint. The Treasury has no say in the discontinuation of any coin.

 

They don’t circulate and they are only made for collectors. As long as people buy them, Congress will authorize them and the mint will produce them.

 

But they can just skip a year. Or two..

With the high price of the modern clad proof and silver proofs it has me second guessing my decision to build a complete set. If there is no end in sight the set could be expensive if the price for non silver coins is high like it has been. I feel like I am too deep into the set to turn back now. I need less than 20 coins to have a complete set.

 

If they did away with the cent and the dollar bill, the half and a $2 coin (or bill) would probably circulate. Not holding my breath.

 

I do not understand why the general public is against the $2 bill. Better than carrying a bunch of singles. And in my opinion, the cent should have disappeared long ago. It does not have any buying power and is basically just used for paying tax. And while I am at it, lets drop the .99 from prices. Does anybody think that someone will buy something at $4.99 but not $5?

 

I have purchased items in my neighborhood shops that are priced at $4.99. I hand them $5.00, they ring up the item. They put the money in the register and they don't hand me my change. I then just stand their with my hand open towards them.. they ask "what do you want?".. I tell them "my change. I want my penny!".. it annoys them but I'm right!

 

It should be kept the same size. Does anyone remember the issue with the US Quarter and the SBA Dollar?
It confused many people because they were similar in size.

 

Barely, I was only 13 at the time. My mind was on other things I guess (rolls eyes).
I like the JFK Halves. Who doesn't is missing out.

 

I'll do that then nicely put it in the penny "thingy" after I check for Wheaties.

 

The scantily clad young ladies at the local alcohol serving
establishment seem to enjoy the $2 bills. Some have even
used them creatively. Designing several at a time into leaf
shaped objects.

 

I can't tell you the number of times I've confused
a $1 bill for a $100 bill.

 

The half dollar will be minted as long as the current
administration has a say.
Same with the Lincoln cent and the delegation from Illinois.

 

It is simply a matter of cash register drawers. The typical drawer has a space for ones, fives, tens and twenties. Hence why a cashier is perplexed when you hand them a fifty. They do not have a space for it.

 

They sent them all overseas to pay us soldiers with. Wasn’t very much fun drawing out forty bucks for a night on the town and your pockets felt like sandbags.

 

The annual Proof set will be pretty dull without the JFK half dollar. It’s my favorite coin in the set.
