That statute is conflicted by the later Hobby Protection Act of 1974, which allows molds and dies in the likeness of US coins to be legally produced and possessed. Otherwise, the makers of every reproduction coin (including various Indian Head Bison silver rounds, for example), produced since 1974 would be in violation. But they aren't. I challenge you to find one post-1974 court case where someone was convicted under this statute when there was no fraud involved.

If Warhol was here right now you'd probably be jealous about how his painting of a Campbell's soup can label sold for millions of dollars and whining about how it was a copyright violation.

So, you get all upset when the silver round at the beginning of this thread is called "generic". But you just called some other similarly-designed pieces "beyond-cheesy".

I feel like invoking your favorite word here ...

Oi, I feel bad for Mr. Carr, it must be the worst having to deal with haters 24/7. :(

It's just some of Mr. Carr's work that folks have a problem with.

Wow... Another ignorant comment from someone too lazy to follow the issue here. Why am I not surprised?

Again, did Warhol use modern technology like a scanner and printer to copy Campbell's Soup cans, or did his method at least require some level of god-given talent? You don't use your own hands, so stop comparing yourself to any artist/artists who do. Your copying is no different than someone taking Warhol's (garbage) scanning it, changing some detail, and claiming as his own.

You blabber on about jealousy but have yet to explain what I'm supposedly so jealous of? I hate to break it to you, but the talent I'm jealous of is light years beyond yours. You're not in the same galaxy as Vermeer, Lennon/McCartney, etc... you know, those who possessed true creative genius. The simple fact that you're best known for exactly copying the work of others should tell you something, sir, but no... Keep kidding yourself.

I don't whine when someone refuses to see me as an artist. I don't whimper and argue idiocy making delusional comparisons of myself to the truly talented, demanding that my copying be viewed a great art while anyone/everyone else's copying is dog excrement. I don't state my opinion that another operation's dies are illegal while schmuckishly claiming my much more exacting dies are perfectly fine. I find your copying beyond cheesy just like I do the earlier-mentioned "tribute proofs" and can say so without the slightest hypocrisy; can you?

As for your usual hiding behind the lack of convictions, just because you haven't experienced heat doesn't mean what you do is to the letter of the law. I read your post on the FTC website and it makes clear that you know damn well you're skirting the law; why else would you bother trying to justify your position if the law was already on your side? Then there's the whining about "intent" as if that makes it all okay. Do those producing illicit fentanyl today "intend" to kill anyone? No, they intend to make money, but this doesn't mean no harm comes from their actions and the same can most reasonably be said for yours even if not life and death.

Let's be honest here; you steadfastly refuse to use clearly identifying markers simply because you wish to keep your blatant copying as true to the original as possible. The great debate over what you do would all but disappear if you did what you KNOW to be the right thing.

Had no idea that there are two Daniel Carrs - the one who you referred to, and some coin designer who happens to have the same name. :D That other D.C. designs pieces such as state quarters - his NY and RI quarters won the design competition and were then produced by the US Mint - or the amero fantasy issues for example. Maybe the designer Daniel Carr should pick a different name, so that we don't mix the two up any more ...

You're seriously ignoring the FACT the man's greatest game comes from copying the work of others, or are you simply denying that's what he does?

The guy designed a couple state quarters; that's great (and I do mean that) but without looking it up, how many other designers can you name? Come on, Christian.... Give me a break, man! Your nose is getting dirty...

You see, Cellino and Barnes is a real life personal injury firm and is why Green's initial post was rather confusing. Do-we cheat-em and how.... I get it and did the the first time. Was funny then, but the rehash? Not so much...

And if you compare his Maine design with what the Mint produced, I think they basically copied that one too.

We've covered all of that here multiple times already.
But you keep repeating the same thing over and over.
Are you expecting a different result this time ?
Do you know what that is an indication of ?

Your implication is insulting and disgusting (just as you intended).
I don't even know who "chrisild" is, except that they are listed as a "Moderator" located in the EU. Certainly not a "brown noser" as you claim.

Are you an alternate ID for a moderator here ?
