Can I see a color neutral photo? The blue is distracting, since the only non brightened photo has a blue insert, which should clearly be milky white.

IMO, you'll need to modify your standards for Environmental damage or some will group you and your opinion with that of a well-known numismatic chemist.

While the environment that coin was stored in or the method a coin doctor used to color it can be called "damage" to its original surface; that type of "damage" is referred to as beautiful rainbow toning. At the moment, coins like this are highly desired and the color adds $$$ to the coin over an "undamaged" specimen.

Same here, 64 because the ding on the neck and scuffings on the reverse. I have a few with almost the same toning and they it got from storing them in an album, with more intense toning on the reverse.

The 1st 3 images were captured under a lamp, the last one was captured outdoors in the shade, to give you an idea of the in-hand surface preservation

I disagree. Coins like this are only desired at a premium in clean slabs. If you had the same coin in a AT MS 60 details slab or a MS62* slab, would you pay the same price? What about MS63+*? Hypothetically, the only thing desired is the TPG's opinion of market acceptability. ;)

LOL! You made a very visual statement but considering the alloy of the '58 date, it would have had to be a suicidal vamp.......

You can disagree all you wish as it does not change the observable FACTS. Rainbow coins are sought after by many professional dealers and collectors with more money and experience than either of us. No one cares if you or I like that FACT or if we choose to call it toning or ED!

Perhaps you could send letters to all the grading services to educate them about the disservice they are doing for collectors and that chemist who shares your view.

BTW To answer your specific "change-the-playing-field" point to cover your misconceptions: Even if the TPGS "detailed" that quarter, someone will purchase it as an MS-66 or even MS-67 when it is cracked-out of the slab. That's just another FACT. IMNSHO! :jawdrop::p

If that were true, there'd be absolutely no reason to get the coin graded in the first place. It's MS-63 details which got up to two grade bumps based upon the color. If it's getting MS-66/67 money raw, why would ANYONE get it slabbed? By the way, you need to revisit your definition of facts... they feel more like opinions.

Well said. :shame: I need to keep writing IMO even though I forget that a few here don't understand some things are subject to opinion and I AM NOT A KNOW IT ALL! That said, IMO, rainbow toned coins are very desirable to many people and that is why they cost more.

FACT:  This is my opinion also. I believe that coin could grade as high as MS-67 at PCGS. Hopefully, it did not. Nevertheless, OBVIOUSLY  IMO, no matter if it is an MS-65, MS-66, or MS-67, it will USUALLY bring more money in a PCGS slab rather than raw - unless they did not bump it +1 or +2 for color (keep dreaming  - I'll bet they did).

NOTE: The previously posted message is a certifiably valid opinion based on overwhelmingly observable FACTS!:D:p

    Is it artificial????
The crowd slides to the edge of its seat
    Is it questionable???
    The plot thickens
    Is it market acceptable???
Growing impatient ,the crowd draws a deep breath
    Is it natural???

Stay tuned for the big reveal!!!
