I would like to find out if this Peace dollar might have a couple of errors on the Obverse side. To my knowledge it has been in a plastic case that was in a commemorative holder since 1993. Was wondering if there is a die gouge above the right "T" in TRVST and a die crack above the "L" in liberty that might give it a VAM rating. As always, thanks for your input
More pics might help but the one pic only shows PMD and is a bit blurry. Nice coin otherwise. Good luck.
There appears to be only post mint damage. FYI, all Peace and Morgan dollars have a VAM attribution. It is an ongoing study of dies, marriages of obverses and reverses, and the stages of each such as, very early, early, mid, late and very late.
…all Peace and Morgan dollars have a VAM attribution. Not true. Go to VAM World and search for “VNA”. This stands for VAMS NOT ASSIGNED. Select “VNA Varieties” and it lists all the dates Morgans and Peace Dollars have no assignment of a VAM attribution, and it is extensive. What you are referring to is the popular notion collectors of Morgans and Peace have that, even with no identifying attributes such as die cracks or broken stars, the basic die pair is assumed to be VAM 1 for that date and mint. Not to worry. I was led astray too. But after performing exhaustive VAM identification work on 15 Morgans and Peace dollars, I was introduced to this section of VAM World. And I still have 145 more to go. Here’s hoping I didn’t sound critical of you personally, that is not my intention. …imo…Spark
Thanks for that info. When one is informed of some new knowledge it would be very egoistic to take it as criticism. Sorry if I unintentionally misled anyone with my reply.
