Hey everyone! It's finally Thursday Feb.1st and for today I'm naming " Trade Dollar Thursday". Please post your coins too!
This is my 1878S Trade dollar DDR FS-801 (graded XF-cleaned). Notice the doubling on the example? Not sure what I paid or what it's worth??

None here. But a trade dollar is on my Metal Detecting bucket list.

That would be nice. Can you imagine digging one of those big coins. The largest coin I ever saw found was a Morgan dollar and a Barber Half. Not by me though. Come to think of it, how does one lose such a large coin anyways?

This one was in my 7070 for many years. PCGS gave it an AU-58. I didn't expect. I thought it might get AU-50.

Here's the example I have in my registry type set. Would like to some day do an upgrade, but hesitate to part with this one because I love the look of it. Was in a ANACS AU50 slab and I sent to NGC in 2009.

We have a 2013 granddaughter, 11 years old today. Our first of three. Would not trade her for anything. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY AVERY"

I thought it might get AU58 or MS63 back then. Just didn't want "cleaned" so I am happy.
I don't go by slab grading, I have plenty I disagree with as it is, both positive (overgraded) and negative (undergraded or details etc.)
This coin looks better in hand, and I think it should be MS63 all day.

I don't have any of these. But am on the hunt for one with MANY chop marks. Unfortunately, there are too many fakes out there, so I am hesitant to buy.

Here's mine, not very nice, and I don't even know if it is genuine, but it fills a hole in my type collection.

    I have four.

My fairly new type set coin. It is a PR-64. I had wanted a Proof Trade Dollar for a long time. This one is a Proof only issue with a mintage of 960. It's one of the "common dates."

    1881 Trade Dollar All Me.jpg

    Auction House photo of it.

    1881 Trade Dollar All Her.jpg

My previous type coin. It's an MS-63. I still have it.

    1877-S Trade Dollar All.jpg

A "box Trade Dollar" The romantic story about these is that they were used to smuggle opium. The real story is that they were hollowed out in the 19th century to house pictures of loved ones. I have seen Columbian commemorative half dollars that had been given the same treatment. It probably dates from the 1880s and early '90s.

    In the closed position.

    Box Trade Dollar R.jpg

A well chopped marked Trade Dollar. This one has solder on the edge which means it was probably used for jewelry at one time. It was on "the Boston Bid Wall" in the early 1980s. No one bid on it so I ended up with it after the sale for $20. As one guy said, "You would have thought that the others would have taken the first guy's word for it that it was real.
