I like it, don't know too much about these dollars. Wouldn't know it's authenticity, lots of fakes out there.

I don't think it is real.

looked at this one long and hard before pulling the trigger. It looks genuine to me as the obverse and reverse are both Type II, I see no signs of casting, the denticles match up with genuine specimens, the color is spot-on for a silver coin that was cleaned 50 years ago, and the high points have a different color that indicate circulation.

I'm looking at the color and the lack of detail. I'm also looking at the lack of hits for a coin with this much wear. It looks too clean. Hope I'm wrong. Did you weigh it?

That is because it is cleaned.

That is because it is worn.

This coin has about the same level of hits. I bought this from Bill Fivaz, so I know it is genuine.

I agree that the second coin is real. The first one is not.

I still disagree. I guess we'll see when I get it in hand. If it is indeed counterfeit, eBay will side with me unconditionally.

If you can't handle opinions other than your own, don't ask for them. You asked for opinions and he gave his.

I'll shut up and only listen to anyone else who replies.

No one suggested shutting up. You have your opinion, and he has his, just as I have mine. No one could reasonably expect you to blindly listen to anyone else, but trying to convince someone to agree with you when it's clear they don't can be an exercise in futility.

Sorry, but there is no way on God's earth that anyone - not even Rick Montgomery, J.P. Martin, etc. can authenticate the OP's Trade dollar with 100% confidence using those photos. :jawdrop:

Counterfeit Trade dollars are so good that many have been slabbed and then bought back by the TPGS. The ONLY things in that photo that scream "I am probably genuine" is the color and condition of that coin. The second coin is genuine.

So I'll play this "game" and say it is genuine. o_O

I wish I could tell the difference, I'm just here to soak up some experience. Right now, this is what fills the hole for my Trade Dollar:

Thanks! I bought it on a whim off eBay. No clue if it's genuine, or if all the chop marks are genuine, but a friend of mine sent me a chop mark book a while back and one day I'm going to sit down and try to identify some of them.

The seller cancelled the order, so we'll never know.

I'm about 90% confident it's genuine. Too bad you'll never have it in front of you.

I'm the one that should have kept his mouth shut. I did not know this deal was still in the works.
