It's not a strike error. It is the result of a grease-filled die. Grease and debris will accumulate in the recess and become compacted from repeated strikes. Eventually, it can become almost as hard as steel if it remains in the recess long enough. In the case of the coin you presented, the last digit has disappeared on the die, and it is only speculation which digit, 0-9, it could be. Chris
