I came across this 1982 Dime and I am wondering could the damage to this coin be all damage or error too ?
There is a heavy vertical line in the second T in states, followed by a matching in E- in united. The N seems to have some lustre.
The "N" seems to have some luster? I guess that would make it an MS.0000060 or maybe it's an AU.0000058. @Layo6 What, specifically, do you think might be a Mint error, and how do you think it happened? Chris
I was going to say. I do a lot of walking, and quite frequently find "road rash" cents, dimes, nickels, and even quarters.
If it were an Uncirculated coin, it would definitely have some value. I sold one on eBay not too long ago for $3.01. Due to the lack of mint sets in 1982 and 1983, it's a good idea to save high grade examples of coins (particularly the nickel and clad ones) from those years two when you find them in circulation.
Understanding how the Mint makes its coins is a lot easier than trying to determine which type of vehicle ran over a coin. Chris
Sorry, but with the amount of damage on there, it's near impossible to tell what happened when it was struck and what happened afterwards. Most collectors in this forum would most likely not even look at a coin in that condition under a loupe and just chuck it into the "spend pile". I'm afraid I can't be more helpful, sorry.
