Got this dime from the clerk at a gas station I frequent regularly along with a 1883 O and a 1884 Morgan silver dollars that I got for face value...

The kid tells me that theres an old guy that comes in once every couple of weeks with a boatload of change to buy a pack of smokes with and he brings in half dollars of all sorts aswell as Susan B Anthony dollars too..

Anyways I was looking at the dime with my naked eye and right off the bat it struck me as being in pretty good shape aswell as quite odd appearing when flicked back n forth in the light...

I recently found out that scanners work pretty well at scanning coins contrary to my beliefs that a scanners light should of refracted the light in such a way the coin could never be viewed clearly but I was wrong after viewing the scanned dime on my Epson XP410.....LOL

So anyways I was blowing up the picture and saw a ghost of a second eye in Roosevelts forehead and started thinking I might have myself a two eyed Roosevelt then I started seeing some odd things like extensive ghosting and other odd shapes n stuff in Roosevelts head and neck so I did some research about the dime and found out that 1946 was the first year of the Roosevelt dime so it got me to thinking and I pulled up a google picture of a 1945 Mercury dime obverse aswell as reverse to compare..

I dont know if its just the power of suggestion or a Jedi mind trick but not only does the obverse side exhibit signs of being struck over a Mercury dime but so does the reverse side aswell.....

It appears it might of even been double struck over the dime to make sure it takes to its new appearance...

Its pretty uncanny how alike the two dimes actually are.....

    What does everybody else think?

I am sorry, but I do not see where your dime was over struck. Can you provide better evidence?

Cool, man! It is a good thing I don't do drugs, otherwise, I could throw up watching this. Ha, ha!

I ha e a die trial that was passed down to me with these same characteristics. It has what appear to be die gouges making up the whole design of the mercury dime rotated about 7 degrees from the roosevelt. The torch is clearly from the mercury design and all design elements are present. The obverse has elements showing on the face of roosevelt but is missing the date and complete fields and instead has heavy filing Mark's all throughout the entire field. I am wondering if these were as a design test to see how well the design would fill before producing the master dies. I believe my grandpa purchased these trials from the auction along with his 1964 sms kennedy trial which s now our little secretive heirloom. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
