And, of course, there's the infamous Redfield hoard of silver dollars where a rich Nevada eccentric hoarded thousands of silver dollars and tossed them in bags down a coal chute into a hidden room. That and the Binion hoard might go together in a single program.

Just remember to pick up coins by the edges and not leave finger marks on them.

And maybe in the credits, you can have "consultants" -- all our screen names, of course.:wacky:

The longevity of the coin being minted in the same design for 430 years is only part of it. You see, the Netherlands gold ducat is arguably the most important coin the world has ever seen. It literally changed the world, made the world we have today what it is. And was directly responsible for the world's first multinational corporation, and the world's first publicly traded stock. And that just touches the surface of the history of this little coin.

I think you'd really be interested if you knew the coin was found and exist today, with the dent from the bullet in it. And that is was found aboard the sunken Civil War submarine on which Dixon died.

Has anybody suggested the 1933 double eagles yet. From minting to melting to the King Farouk gift specimen to it being the only "legal" one now due to the Langboard case that was just adjudicated granting the US government to seize them. Now that's one of the king of numismatic stories

    Or

The 1974 aluminum Lincoln cent prototypes struck due to the copper shortage and price increase and given out to senators and congressmen to try and get them on board and when they were asked to return them some didn't making the ones known today very valuable including the one in 2014 that PCGS graded and was going to heritage auctions which put it on the government's radar and was quickly siezed

An idea, I just came up with is how ancient and world coins inspired the designs on American coinage. Just read an article in the Feb 2016 Coin world magazine about that.

Let me get this right. Doug, a moderator, has been giving you ideas now a different mod tells you to go away. This is getting unbelievable. You mods need to talk to one another. It happens enough that a mod comes into a thread and does no editing and joins the conversation and a day later another mod comes in the thread and kills posts and edits stuff etc. Now it happens again yet instead of editing, in this case, a mod tells you to kick rocks. There's something very wrong with that and the mod culture here!

There is more to this character than is apparent in this thread. In the World coins section, there is a bit more drama going on: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/most-expensive-british-coin.282816/

Hmm. I missed reading all of that since it involved foreign coins. Moderator is not a job I'm volunteering for.

I don't know about the possible dubious nature of the soverign purchase but this documentary being labeled by jim as self promotion in the sense of breaking the rules because he has a financial stake in it is ludicrous imo. He's not trying to sell a coin which is what the anti self-promotion rule is for. Not for someone who is trying to create a documentary tv series and is looking for storyline opinions and sure it promotes the show if it ever comes to fruition. Did I miss something here other than that as to why jim put a stop to him? It didn't seem like he was overtly promoting sales of anything.

    One last post
I now have looked at forum rules and understand more of your guidelines, however I don’t want to fall foul of any rules as I really do need to promote the documentary.
I'll set up a website where anyone can post without any comeback or stress or upset anyone.
I get back to give the address later this week.
So when it's up please visit the site and post your suggestions
    Thanks
    Jordan

Let's just say that there has been a lot going on behind the scenes that you, and the other members, are not aware of.

You're being misleading Jordan. You were perfectly aware of the forum rules because I myself told you about them, pointed them out to you, and warned you about breaking them back on the 22nd. So to say that you just looked at them now, on the 29th ???

That said, there is nothing wrong with, nor does it violate our forum rules, for you to post about your documentary. So far anyway. But if your documentary turns out to be an advertising campaign, and not a documentary - yeah, then there will be a problem it.

    But for now, it's fine.

    Hi thanks
    Ok
To tell the truth i didn't look until Jim warned me oops I thought I just couldn't put a website on.
No it is a documentary but I'll be very careful what I post because while I do need help with stories I do need help the getting the Numismatic BIG BOYS behind it for the funding. So I do need to promote it so I'll do that on the official website ....coming soon!
    Thanks again
