My father-in law passed away last year and recently I was going through his things and found some coins.
I did a search for the one coin and it says from 105 BC, so I don’t even know if that’s a real coin and just made to look like the original.
The other coin is a 1946 wheat penny, not sure if it has any value.
Any input on either coin would help.

The Wheat Cent is worth maybe three cents, that’s what my LCS pays for them. The other coin from 105 BC looks real. You should do a separate thread on the Ancient forum and post that one. Those guys are great.

Thanks, I saw this online about the wheat penny. I can’t tell if it has these characteristics.

Ridiculous prices! When a die is worn it starts to put letters or numbers that are close to the rim on the rim. Both are only worth three cents.

Please do not use Ebay for information. There are so many scammers trying to trick uneducated people into buy outrageously overpriced coins. The Ebay listings you posted are examples of this.

Wheat cents without a mintmark are from the Philadelphia mint are very common.

Another piece of advice is don't clean your coins no matter how dirty they look. Cleaning a coin can reduce its value by 50% or more.

If you reference ebay for prices, use the filters (usually under the more filters tab) to sort by sold items. That way you'll see what has recently sold and at prices that are somewhat current.

Welcome to CT! I'm still pretty new here myself, and this is an absolutely fantastic community and vault of knowledge. I look forward to seeing more of your posts in the future!

Yeah…. That whole “L in the rim” thing is nothing more than the product of an overworked die….. And wishful thinking by EBay marketers.
