    Has it been cleaned?
If not, what grade would PCGS give it?

If I were a PCGS grader I should give it a detail grade for corrosion and an XF-45 grade for the design details that remain.

XF, I think it has problems, and somebody probably tried to clean it.

XF details. I think someone tried to clean this coin and botched it.

Just opinions at this point...it'd be great to send it in and get a straight grade, but my intuition, albeit not as well formed as some, is telling me the surfaces may have been cleaned.

I personally was thinking VF35, but cleaned...Insider said corrosion...not sure about that...there's no verdigris or pitting...in hand, may just be the darker spots and my photo

I think it's been cleaned and would only get a cleaned, details grade.

I don't think it's been cleaned as we we think cleaned. I do think that it was terribly dirty at one time, and some of that was removed to reveal a coin. I agree that it has 40 to 45 details and you probably could carry it around in your pocket a little and get a solid grade out of it.

If I were a PCGS grader, I wouldn't let you guys know. Otherwise, I would probably be hassled day-in and day-out.

When I saw it I thought old cleaning not too harsh in my opinion. As for grade WOW the XF people are tough I was leaning AU53 I guess I have gone more blind than originally expecting.

I think if you want to get a straight grade on this piece, you'd have to keep it as a pocket piece for at least a year. Every time you sit down at your desk, pull it out of your pocket set it on the desk, then when you get back up, put it back in your pocket. Keep a few other loose coins with it. Just my opinion.

You have the coin. If any of the "dark" patches and pits are below/into the coin's field as they appear to be to me, it is corroded. And yes, the coin has been cleaned.

Hey, how often do we have someone asking a question and then arguing the rest of the week in disagreement with the answer?

Come on! Be honest! How many people here do you think would pay you for that service? You may as well just open a collection agency.
