Those are asking prices, not selling prices. Highest price for a completed sale on a set of four so far was $699, a couple at $660, more at $650, and a lot in the $450-600 range. Highest I see for a set of two is $375, and those were outliers.

Based on comments elsewhere, I'm wondering if there's one dealer who's trying very hard to corner the market on these. At $300 per set, it would take less than $4 million to do it. I'm still not sure it would be a winning gamble, though.

Has anyone caught wind if the mint is going to make more of these? I've called them but the rep had no idea if they were going to or not.

Although I doubt it, they have done it before with an ASE and ticked a bunch of people off. Although I expect them to probably mint another Liberty medal next year and probably way over estimate the mintage as is usual for the mint as they always seem to either under mint or over mint everything.

    From another forum...

The communications coming from the Mint’s Corporate Communications office and its spokesman, Michael White, appear to be consistent in reporting that the 12,500 units for each silver Liberty medal are, in fact, mintage limits rather than product limits (as listed on the Mint’s web site).

From the Mint’s own press release of August 16, 2016:

“The one-ounce silver medals are struck at the United States Mint at West Point (product code UH9) and the United States Mint at San Francisco (product code UH10) with a mintage limit of 12,500 per medal.(Emphasis added here and below.)Each medal is encapsulated and placed in an elegant blue velvet presentation case with a certificate of authenticity.”

This has been further corroborated by more recent follow-up communications from Michael White.

The web site Coin Update is reporting that “Michael White of the Mint’s Office of Corporate Communications has confirmed in an email that each medal has been given amintage limit of 12,500 units.

The Mint News Blog site reports on a communication it received from White that stated “the one-ounce silver medals are struck at both West Point and San Francisco with amintage limit of 12,500 per medal, and a household limit of 2.”

  9. Wow. I just did a quick sale with Penn. Didn't want to deal with ebay and paypal. I'm happy with $50.00 for pair *profit*.

Wait, so you sold 2 of them to them for $120? They seem to be paying much more on eBay listings

  11. Made $50.00 total profit on the 2 coins. Didn't want the hassle with ebay and paypal. I could have done much better, But, Don't have the time. These metals will probably fade in time ( price wise ).

A true auction just ended, not BIN, for 4 coins shipped at $560. A truer judge of desire IMO.

Where they go from here I have no idea.

Does anyone else think these can maintain this level of interest? I was actually considering selling my second set but those pictures do look really good.

Yes I do. I think there's a 50/50 or better shot because the gold buyers, most of which have decent pockets, will want the silvers to go with their golds. So while not being a coin they go with a coin via "mini-set" and are acting accordingly. I think there is a very good shot these will hold at high prices. Maybe spike a little more but will still settle high.

And if Penn Metals really is trying to corner the market and is able to grab quite a bit of them then there could be a huge spike between them gobbling them up and when they flood the market with graded ones. No suggest keeping them sealed in the box if your notbgrading them as they will probably be worth more especially if 70s start heading toward the moon :)

This four coins set might pass $4,000.00 or even reach $8,000.00 in the coming years. Think about it. It is silver coin and its mintage is only 12,500 or less.

  19. Anchor? Maybe these coins can even pay off the deficit...
