Just picked up the Denarius from Ma-SHOPS, it hasn't arrived to me yet but I'm in the middle of making coin flip inserts and tray insert tickets for display. I can't find a reference code/number for this type anywhere online. This is a Anonymous Denarius that has ROMA without her helmet. Weight: 3.56 g Diameter: 18.00 mm Obverse: Head of Rome, behind, symbol of value: X. Reverse: Loos dioscuros on horseback on the right, above stars, below cornucopia. legend in the exergue Or was this undocumented by Crawford?
From 128 BC. to Marcus Antonius Roma. C. Gargonius, M. Vergilius, Ogulnius. Denarius. 86 BC. Head of Apollo right, wearing oak-wreath; below, thunderbolt. R/ Jupiter in quadriga right, holding reins and hurling thunderbolt. Crawford 350A/2; Sydenham 723; Babelon pg. 77 n. 226; BMCRR Rome 2622.
Thanks! I initially thought the obverse was Apollo as well, the dealer didn't attribute it correctly! So for this specific type there is no specific moneyer that "signed" the reverse but 3 possible moneyers in that year who could have minted this Denarius. Got it.
