@Bing would be the expert on this, but the detail and finish don't look right to me.

Doesn't look right to me, unless this coin is priced in multiple hundreds from a reputable dealer. Most Legionary denarii were widely circulated for multiple centuries, so even a coin with common legion number in mint condition like the one you posted would fetch a lot.

It is on EBay, not good for authenticity

who is the seller...this might answer the question without even looking at the coin ;)

I initially thought the coin suspicious, but I couldn't enlarge the images. So I found it on Ebay and was able to enlarge the images. I believe the coin is not authentic. Not only does the appearance seem off, but there are what I think are casting bubbles visible. It's hard to be 100% confident, but I wouldn't buy the OP coin

Though I am not familiar with the seller; they have many ridiculous fakes for sell.

I agree it's fake. Looking at the examples posted by @Bing is instructive - the "pressed" look a lot of these have is pretty obvious after you've looked at a lot of them.

That being said, I have three Marc Antony legionary denarii bought over the years on eBay - I am fairly confident they are genuine (I could be wrong - it happens):

    upload_2024-1-23_10-50-48.jpeg

One of these is a kind of scarce LEG XII ANTIQVAE and came with a FORVM provenance (the one on the right):

    Roman Imperatorial Denarius
    Marcus Antonius
    (Fall 32 B.C. - Spring 31 B.C.)
    Patrae, Greece Military Mint

    ANT•AV[G] III•VIR•R•P•C, praetorian galley to right / Aquila between two signa; LEG [XII ANTI]QVAE Crawford 544/9; RSC 40. (3.59 grams / 17.3 x 16 mm)
    eBay Nov. 2017 $35.00
Provenance: eBay seller included flip insert and paper tag noting: "ex-FORVIM Ancient Coins Oct. 2016 ($90.00)" Weight and dimensions taken from FORVM information.

They look fine to me, just worn as so many of these MA legionary denarii. They were in circulation for centuries. They apparently often passed from hand to hand quickly because the silver content was low.

is being sold by eBay fraudster ancientground old ID coinauction12 and alternate roman.land

This guy is out of Cyprus and is a well known fake seller. He sells quite a few legit coins; but then salts in the fakes. His feedback has many complaints.

Some of those feedbacks are REALLY mad at him!

One buyer got so angry that his French accent became audible in the text:

"YOU ARE JUSTE A CROOK, A LITTLE THIEF....BUYEURS! BEWARE..."

:D Sounds like this seller earned it

Check biddr.com, they had some lower grade legion coins for auction. The best bet will be to check CNG and Leu for upcoming auctions.
