Is anyone out there working on putting together sets of coins from circulation? Currently I'm working on a Short Set of Wheat Cents (1934-1958), a set (1938-1961) of Jeffersons, and am 1 coin short of finishing up my modern Quarter set (missing the 2009-P North Mariana Islands coin). I've found 58 of the 71 Wheat Cents, missing only the 35-D, 35-S, 36-D, 37-D, 38-D, 39, 39-D, 40-D, 41-D, 43-D, 48-S, 51, and 54 coins. As for the Jeffersons, I am now just missing 5 coins: 38-S, 39-D, 43-D, 50-D, and 55 Philly. How about the rest of you?
58 out of 71 wheat cents? Those are the ones you're missing? So you've found a 1909-S VDB, 1914-D, a 1922-D, a 1924-D, and a 1931-S? I'm sorry, but I'm finding it hard to believe you on that one.
Good luck finding a 50-D nickel. I accumulated most of a set of Jefferson nickels as a kid. I ended up with pretty much everything 1940-current at the time, except 50-D and maybe 4 or 5 other ones. It was fun.
I'm trying to put together 09-29, and 30-58 littleton wheat folders, depression era and the early teens seem really scarce. Got all the p's all the way back to 34. S wheats are probably 1 every 2 boxes here though
Thanks! I found a 50-D once... way back in 1987 (see photo)... I worked as a cashier at a fast food place and in 2 1/2 years I was able to complete a set of Jeffersons. It was a lot of fun, and a challenge at the same time. I feel like I'm recapturing my youth by trying to do it again!
Aw yes. I have those same Littleton Wheat folders. I bought them because they're made in the USA and I had $25 gift cards to use at my local Barnes & Noble. I have filled exactly 6 of the 59 holes in the 09-29 one. The 1931-1933 cents have always been hard to find. I have yet to find one - EVER! Out here on the West coast, I do find quite a few S minted wheats though in my current searching, I've only found one from prior to 1935 (a 1919-S).
I have a set of Jeffs missing 4 and enough to probably do two more sets less the same 4. I haven't been to diligent lately. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
About 5 months ago, I finished my Jefferson set from CRH after about 3.5 years of effort. The last one I needed was the 39-D, but over the time of searching I found two 50-Ds. Good luck on the search.
It took years, but I did find the '50-D a couple of years ago, then a month later another one. I have found about a dozen '39-D. The '50-D completed my from circulation book.
I'm attempting to fill a buffalo nickel folder from circulation/CRH finds. Many of the earlier date/mintmark nickels are the result of Nic-A-Dating dateless nickels found while roll searching. I'd say I'm about 70% complete after 10 years of searching. I'm also trying to fill a Littleton folder of Mercury dimes from circulation/CRH finds. That folder is probably 60% complete. Obviously, the rarities are empty, but I have found a few of the second tier rarities.
Yes, I have two sets of collections, one uncirculated and the other circulated. My circulated set includes pennies (1934-present), nickels (1938-present), dimes (1965-present) and quarters (1965-present). I have been able to find ALL of the coins from circulation for these years with the sole exception of the 1950-D nickel which I finally bought to complete the set.
Congrats, that's awesome! And thanks on the good luck wishes. I just gotta keep searching. You never know what's going to show up!!!
Yeah, I know a lot of people end up having to buy that coin (and/or the 39-D)... Well done on the Lincoln short set.
That's a great undertaking there... I've seen a couple of people trying to do this. Which reminds me, I need to get some of that Nic-A-Date stuff!
