Well, on the plus side they do have combined shipping.

I am hoping it was a typo meant to state $10. I have seen other sellers do the same, seemingly hoping to catch someone off guard with a good upfront cost and somewhat hidden overkill on shipping.

I don't think so, check out this guy's other listings. Over 800 of them have this shipping price. My guess is that he just doesn't want to deal with anyone outside of Portugal.

I have been caught by that in the past. Not that bad but a coin listed for one dollar but then my bill was a lot more. They had shipping cost at twenty five. So I had to pay twenty six dollars in the end. It came in the mail with a stamped envelope. Some people do it a lot be careful everyone.

I would contact the seller about that as I feel it was a typo.

Wow. There's another prolific seller in Portugal I buy from a few times a year and his shipping is less than $10. I don't understand that $1,000 cost at all.

IIRC, several years ago ago Ebay cracked down on this type of nonsense, as sellers would list cheap item prices but then had high shipping/handling costs. Sellers were doing it to cut down on their seller fees.

But then again, Ebay picks and chooses what rules to follow, including their own.

Maybe the shipping is in Nigerian Dollars? (devil)

For $1000, a nice gentleman steps out of the chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce, wearing a Brioni suit and a Hermes tie, snaps open an antique calfskin briefcase, and presents the coin to me from his white-gloved hands.

That would be cheap for shipping from Portugal.
I suppose if he gets an order outside the EU, he wants to make sure the hassle with customs forms and VAT is worth it.

That's actually against eBay's guidelines to use a highly inflated shipping price - it's deceptive.

Edit - Well it used to be against their guidelines, I don't see a direct option for it in the report listing area. Reported it under other with an explanation, curious what I get for a response if any.
