Got a nice VAM

I'm really sorry but I am way out of my league on this and this whole thread has been a new learning experience. I have only been to a few coin shows but never took the opportunity to check out Morgan's. My collection has been hit and miss for the most part when the feeling moved me to add another. I certainly do not doubt your expertise in this whatsoever. Looking at the pics all I can really see in the luster is dull at the flat strike compared to the rest of the original luster. I cannot answer #2 & #3 because this is the first time I have ever seen this and I do not know the specifics involved in a coin being struck this way. I have never seen it on other coins. And by the way, I would never block anyone because they disagreed with me, because, as I've always said, I can be and have been wrong and I'm easily willing to take pie in the face for jumping the gun. I was not trolling when I posted though but I should have waited awhile before I said something.

Flat strike luster is dull, not frosty. and a different color because it reflects light differently.I have only been to a few coin shows but never took the opportunity to check out Morgan's. Now, while you re on a "roll" look at the OP coin and describe what the original surface looks like when there is a hit.

 

To my eyes, I see full white luster but maybe because of the photo or this particular type of strike, not the "cartwheel" effect ? I'm still learning mind you. I only have a few B.U.'s in my set which do have the cartwheel effect. The rest are in Fine to Extra Fine range.

 

OK, impact damage on a frosty original coin leaves a bright, shiny hit. Look at the patch of cartwheel in the field in front of the face.

 

The cartwheel is kind of hard to miss on this one. Here's another photo just for fun. You can see the die scratch going from the R to the S in Pluribus. I've also wondered if some hits are actually strike throughs from crud in the die/planchet.

She's hit too hard for a market MS64. Market MS63/MS62. Interesting VAM, though. Ever think this could be the only one captured in a GSA holder?

 

I know of others, but the VAM 2D/2E are REALLY rare. After spending some time with it I agree it doesn't have a chance at 64, but 62 seems too low to me for a GSA.

 

Yeah, it'll probably get a gift bump to 63 being a gsa as its on the 62/63 line. Wait, didn't I say this a page or two ago?
