Old Columbians, and raw commems in general, need love. So I loved two today........... A little die crack through 'exposition'...... And, a Cleveland....... Thanks for lookin' folks............
Nice @green18 ! I don't have any photos of my one U.S. commemorative but I have a couple ancient commemoratives.
Just checked, looks the same. I have several more cracks on my reverse, so same die, later stage? Did they use many dies? I wish I knew more about the series.
On close look, seems like you have die cracks connecting Chicago and Worlds. Looks identical to mine!! Very cool.
I like picking up Columbian Halves for around melt to when a Grand Knight leaves his position I give him one as a thank you. I have given many to our past grand knights, of the Knights of Columbus, The first thing they ask is it real. I tell them yes. I have some extra halves because I like them.
You're a KOC. that's cool. I have a couple of KOC presentation dress swords from the 1800s with ivory handles and gold guilt etched blades. Often mistaken as being Freemason swords.
All of the '92s were struck in November and December of that year. I'm clueless (and haven't been able to find out) as to how many dies were used in the minting process. My 'crack'(s) is/are very faint so I think mine is earlier on rather than late state. Every time I see an Columbian (in fairly decent state) I grab it. They're cheap and fun to have. It was the first commem that my father showed me. This particular coin grabbed my attention because of the color but when I put the glass on it I noticed some disturbances (damage) on some of the letters near the rim but for the $15 asking price I couldn't pass it up. When I photoged this piece I removed it from the 2x2.........turns out that the damage was on the 2x2, not the coin.
