What coins do you like better in NGC holders?

I'm interested in what others like in NGC holders. What coin types sell better in their holders? I'm working on a group to take to them in January.

I think old circulated silver coins like quarters and half dollars and dollars look better in NGC holders than PCGS ones.

The white background provides a nice contrast that pleases my eyes.

Generally, anything with a designation is better in NGC. They are the only ones to designate PL (PCGS doesn't even consider most coins for it). NGC's strike designations are widely recognized as being stricter and more desirable (flipside, if you have a borderline coin, PCGS is more likely to give it to you). I also think NGC is more desirable for early silver (I prefer their appearance in teh holders, but the grading also seems more conservative.)

PCGS, as you know, is generally considered more desirable for ultra-high grade and modern coinage, due to the Registry effect.

If you have any foreign coinage, NGC is the only option. PCGS grading of foreign coins absolutely sucks.

 

I am yet to own anything by NGC but I have 13 by PCGS and 2 by ANACS

 

I personally like Silver Eagles in NGC holders over PCGS holders, the backround does it for me

 

I prefer PCGS holders, but any nice coin that is accurately graded and fairly priced looks good to me in either holder☺

 

Errors. But only because of the financial aspect as PCGS charges you your first born for error attribution

 

PCGS' variety attribution is in a similar position. Shylock demands his pound of flesh.

 

I'm thinking of taking a large group of Franklins, Walkers and Bust half dollars. They need better holders. Don't think I will ask for the Overton on the Bust. It's not worth the extra $15 to me.
I have an original roll of 1955 Bugs Bunny. Thought about them but there is not a 65 in the bunch. Can't see spending the money on these.
My next though are a dozen or so AU Seated dimes. I may boil these down to just a few of the rare Civil War dates.

Bugs are quite popular, and will sell very well. You can get a pretty decent premium for them raw, but you can make a killing if any of them are designated FBL (they are somewhat hard to find in FBL). If you have any with a good strike, I would suggest submitting those (even a 64FBL Bugs is worth submitting).

 

I do like Walkers in the new generation NGC slabs. Just got a 17S Walker and I think it looks fabulous in the new slab. May have something to do with the angled cut on the obv slab.

Not to mention PCGS turn around time for that is almost the same as pregnancy

 

I like Gold in the NGC Retro Black Holders

 

Simply on an aesthetic basis, I prefer the latest NGC holders for any coin, but value-wise I recognize the slight preference & modest premium for PCGS. That said, the old NGC non-edge revealing holders I don't like at all - especially bad for small coins. I also extremely appreciate that the NGC registry accepts both! That keeps me involved as an NGC member.

 

I am highly skeptical of PCGS' ability to grade bust coinage properly. Definitely sent the bust halves to NGC. They will do a much better job. Franklins and Walkers could go either way, but as was said earlier in this thread, NGC designations are more respected and varied than PCGS. I'm not sure there are any US series where I would outright prefer PCGS, but there are certainly many where I would consider them just as good as NGC. On the whole though, I think NGC is a better company and always a good option for just about anything, with the exception of ANACS attributions for VAMS and many tokens.

 

Anacs is good for vams as John Roberts is their head attributor and he is a beast in Morgan vamming. He knows as much about vams as anyone out there. However, I still prefer my Morgan's in PCGS or if I have to, NGC. That's where John Roberts counterpart John Baumbart comes into play. He is on the same level and his www.varslab.com service will correctly attribute the VAM and put a tamper proof sticker on the reverse of a PCGS or NGC slab. Actually any service's slab I believe. He and John Roberts are the only ones I trust to get it correct 10 times out of 10. Mike Faraone at PCGS is a Damn good vam attributor too but I'm not sure he attributes for them anymore and the big tpgs can make clerical errors by accidentally entering the wrong codes etc

 

I like toned coins with exceptional eye appeal worthy of the star designation and I like any coin worthy of a strike designation.

Why don't you submit like half of them, i.e. those having the best chances of receiving a high grade or FBL designation?

 

I like World Coins in NGC slabs.
