I did a set but all circulated. This one got me going, it was in a standard white NGC holder along with a few others and I had them put into the retro slab. 1921 Peace Dollar Retro NGC-tile.jpg

All good advice. Generally, buy the coins that catch your eye and, maybe even more important, be patient. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

I've been fortunate to be able to complete (subject to upgrade, of course) a Peace set of PCGS graded MS coins. A few of my favorites. . .

I did a mid range UNC set a few years back in old green holders linked above. I even spiced it up and added the 34d doubled die obv, a 25p missing Ray and both 3 & 4 Ray versions of the 35s all in OHG. It was still too easy. After a couple of months I boxed them up and sent to GCs.

And it was my third set of peace dollars since coming back into the hobby as an adult. While I love the design, they pose as much as a challange as state quarters and the size of ones check book. I would buy a type piece or a roll and keep it moving personally.

Those are dynamite coins at dynamite grades, especially the 21, the 28s and the 34s. What is there to upgrade?:woot:

I've often thought of a graded Peace Dollar set but hadn't thought of a nice AU set. That sounds like something doable for an eclectic collector like myself.

I've got a date set in all MS but that doesn't include the 28s and the 34s, which is a real pain in an MS grade.

Hmm. Might be a possibility for me to fill some of those high-priced gaps with AUs.

Watch out for the prices on some. Figure out the prices to complete the set - and focus on the high value coins first. The rest become easier to obtain, and the prices don't go up as much.

You can get a fantastic AU set for a fraction of the MS set if you are looking for well matched coins.

I completed my registry set with NGC this summer, I picked up the last piece and paid dearly for it at the Long Beach show.

The complete set can be seen in the link, the final piece really took the wind out of my collecting budget. I'm done for the year - possibly next year as well. :)

Brett's collection is the one to look at it, but at the request of @DUNK 2 here are a few of mine. Reminds me of my youth as a Top 40 DJ....

Very nice. Proof that coins don't need to be dipped to look awesome!
