Would this be considered as a sample slab? Picked it up at the flea market today for a $1 thought it was interesting. upload_2024-1-14_20-36-52.jpeg upload_2024-1-14_20-36-52.jpeg

He actually had five slabs all with 1928S circulated cents in a PCGS slab holder all the slabs were labeled the same.

The 1928-S LWS has a large and small S variety.

These technically aren't sample slabs but more of a promotional item.

    Please see this thread:

And here is Burton's post from that thread:

I will go back this weekend and pick them up. He had them in the back of a display cabinet with a bunch of junk on top ( could barely see them) and said that I can go through the cabinet and look at what ever i wanted. While rummaging around found three 57’s nickels and a 1938S cent in flips They have been in the flips for a long time and seem to be mint state.Haven’t had time to examine them for full steps I figured for $5 it’s worth a shot.I put the slabs back in the case and put the junk back on top of them. Here’s a picture of the coin’s i removed them from the old 2x2 upload_2024-1-15_8-31-53.jpeg upload_2024-1-15_8-31-53.jpeg

It’s one of PCGS’s earlier slabs. More of a promotional slab. Sample slabs have SAMPLE on the label. You should have bought all of them at that price.

When back to the flea market today to buy the other 5 slabs. When i walked up to the display case all the stuff was organized which was a mess the first time i was there. Well i told him that i would like to buy the rest of the slabs. Then he told me that he found more when he was organizing the display case. So i said sweet i’ll take all of them. While he was packing them up i asked him where they came from and he said that he bids on storage lockers and comes across coins occasionally. I told him that i would evaluate them so he can get the best price for what he has because he doesn’t collect and doesn’t no the value. Then he said for me to give him my phone number so when he gets more collections of coins and currency that i can buy because he doesn’t trust the dealers. So i walked away with 15 slabs and an opportunity for more!!! upload_2024-1-21_20-46-58.jpeg

Since the post quoted above, two 1916s and a single 1921 have surfaced. I bought the 1916, but the 1921 did not cross on fleaBay so my complete set is incomplete.
