Clashed 1864 quarter? (eagle wearing medal)

    Can't think of any other reason why Mr. Eagle would be wearing such a cool medal around its neck - just in time for Michael Phelps's 5,000th gold!

    Looks like the Quarter was used as medal once with that huge hole!

    Is there an indent at the same spot on the obverse?

    Sort of, but it doesn't appear to be the same shape. Corresponding area is directly to the right of the topmost edge of the shield.

    Me too, the shield would be the last place that would have a clash, since the die is inverted the raised areas are actually the fields.

    I don't see a clash, either. All I see is a heavily damaged coin.
