Neither did I. I remember the one you're talking about, though. Interesting piece with Lauer spiel marke vibes.
Came across this die sinker in a lot that was purchased for something entirely different. This definitely ended up being the best thing! I understand it comes from James Murdock Jr. of Ohio.
For @PlanoSteve @green18 and anyone who made it to Freedomland before it chewed the carpet. They were in financial trouble from opening day. It cost $65 million to build in an Era when no one even heard the word billion let alone trillion. In Sept. 1964 they shut down. I remember quick draw gun fights in the street, a train robbery, Civil War re-enactments and the flying saucer. I saw the Great Chicago Fire building burning and kids and parents pumping water on it. But it didn't make any sense to me. Wouldn't it be easier to just not set the building on fire? That was just one more thing on my list of dumb things about "grown ups." Which in retrospect was nutting compared to hiding under some dilapidated wooden desk in a air raid drill. Freedonland Bronx, Cupronickel, 36mm, 14.38mm, C/A I apologize for low quality images but taking pics of bright material is beyond my pay grade.
The next two have been perplexing me for a while. Neither is cataloged on TokenCatalog just yet (I will post them soon). I have seen both the Liberty Spiel-Marke die and the General Washington die paired with an IN UNITATE FORTITUDO Eagle reverse and most without the signature Lauer in script below the Liberty head. These are quarter eagle size (19mm / $2-1/2 dollar). With these two counters, both are paired together, I am thinking these two obverse dies make for a mule die pairing. I cannot find this die pair in any of Fauver's catalogs that I have (I don't own them all). I am wondering if this die pairing rare? Z Here are typical counters with these obverse dies. Images from TokenCatalog.
I bought $150 in customer wrapped 50c rolls. When I opened the first roll, they looked like someone's collection. Most of the reeding was bright red. Anyways this one just popped out of the third roll.
