Sorry about this not being related to your post but I just finished listening to Comfortably Numb and couldn't resist.
I agree. I couldn’t tell from the OP’s photo, the lighting is mediocre. So I waited to see what other members thought, not being an RPM expert. A good close-up would have put quit to the question…imo…Spark
That looks like a repunched mark to me. 006 is the closest match, but this looks to be a stronger one. These have plating issues, however don't get fooled by that knee-jerk reaction. Hang onto this one.
@eddiespin that is what I was thinking. MM placement is very close. The majority of what we are seeing as a full second D is split plating. Here is Coppercoins photo with placement and minor split plating. https://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1987&die_id=1987d1mm006&die_state=mds
Yes, I think that's right, I wasn't looking closely enough at that 006 on coppercoins, I agree, that's split plating on that one just to the right. The undermark on the 006 appears at the top, not on that side. This one, though, looks like a real undermark on that side where the split plating on the 006 is. I think this is a new one.
I think that what you are describing is not raised on the coin. The look is a figment of the imagination.
