Has anyone noticed any difference in strictness or consistency of grading by NGC or PCGS in show grading versus regular grading? Graders may be rushed more at shows, which might affect the way they grade. Been a long time since I had show grading done; I'm rarely in a hurry for grading. Cal
I hear they really hump in house- 8 seconds average to grade a coin. Makes ya feel real good eh? Hey, maybe they'll invent a premium "took our time " service?
I've been told by PCGS executives that graders doing regular in-house (i.e. not show) grading do 100 coins per hour on average. Coins with problems or potential problems take the longest unless it's blatantly obvious, like a hole. If your coin comes back in a bag or with a details grade, you have the small consolation that they spent a few more seconds on it. Unusual coins (e.g. extreme rarities, certain errors) take longer because everyone wants a look even if they aren't the assigned grader. Cal
