For some reason, I've found that people love to abuse large cents.

This one had its edges messed with for some reason, and has a cute little "$" sign stamped on the back.

Honestly, why do people love to mess with large cents so much?

Plain and simple the coin has been beat upon with something to make it look like that.

Large cents are of little monetary value and are large. They thus make a good subject for "art" work. Actually, I have seen a lot of love tokens (which were popular circa civil war and subsequent) but none made from large cents.
