When I see this stuff online, makes me a little ill. Yet people bid on this junk. Reminds me of a little wood putty, a little orbital sanding, and then sealed with granny's silver polish. EVERY one of this seller's coins are identical in texture.

Is that really on the coin, one wonders, or are the pics just heavily doctored in Photoshop?

Either way, it's a travesty, and a huge red flag.

I think so, too. Less work than actually smoothing the coin like that.

I'm thinking Photoshop, too. It would be interesting to compare these shots with honest ones of the coin in-hand -- but not interesting enough to make me bid on one.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

That was my first instinct as well. You would have to really polish a coin with some skill to get that satin texture over the whole coin. For example, the large patch of marks above IGWT on the reverse looks a lot more like the "smudge" tool than the dremel.

There is one dealer on EBay. Every coin he has looks like this. I pull up his offerings occasionally just to gawk at the photos. Stunning really.
