Hi to all, Hoping to get some info and comments on a coin I recently aquired. It is a 1923 Peace Dollar with the 1993 Middle East Peace Accord counterstamped on the reverse. It seems that only 10,000 of these were made. I belive there were 2 different stamps used but not quite sure. It also came with a commemorative holder. Any info would be great. Thanks, Pat

The coin itself has been circulated. I believe there is a medallion that honors the Peace Accord. I have not seen this particular coin and do not know anything about it. It is a nice coin, thanks for sharing it. Good luck.

Thats a real interesting overstrike, but minted 70 years ago would be my first clue.

What was minted 70 years ago? The Peace dollar was minted 100 years ago and the overstrike was presumably applied in 1993, or 30 years ago…am I missing something?…Spark

Clarification: The overstrike was applied to Peace dollars that were 70 years old at that time. I get it now.

Sorry I just wasn't reading it right.
I think that any type of value would be in the provenance. How many were struck and who owned the piece before you got it.

Thanks for the insite Pickin and Grinin, Sad to say I have no knowledge as to the history of this coins original owner and have read as many as 10,000 were struck. I belive The designer of the stamp used was Mel Wacks

Hi Mr.Q, Sorry for the late reply. Have been doing some more digging on this coin and you are right, there was a Medallion minted back in 1978 known as the "Salvador Dali Peace Medallion" along with the US. Peace Dollar counterstamp. Can find the article here; https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1054820/counterstamped-peace-treaty-peace-dollars The coin came encased in a plastic holder (took it out for pics). While it has been circulating for some 70 years or so, hoping it's been preserved since 1993

This was issued by Mel Wacks as far as I know although not designed by him. I used to have a good history of the many stamps issued by Wacks over the years but have since lost it. I think he did about 30 different pieces all related to major events in the world.

A search of his name should provide all the info you need.
