Hi all.. no abuse please lol. Kidding. This Lincoln 1972 S, I honestly keep looking at the “S”. Could the S be over a D mint mark? Take a look please. Just to make sure. Thanks!
Interesting…. There’s some MD on the date so it could be coming from that, but that look interesting.
The mintmark looks like it took a few hit's. Also, the S MM is known for having small die chips. These lead many to believe it is an unknown RPM.
The pictures from Variety Vista show a RPM. Your question was about an S over D which would be classified as OMM. I think, based on your images, that MD is playing a big part in how the MM looks.
The MM placement is iffy on all the examples on VV. It looks real close to a few of them but I still think that your MM is a combination of contact and die chips. Also your S mint mark Lincoln is a business strike, not a proof. San Fran made both the Business strikes and Proof strikes from 68' until 74'.
Have you ever tried sunlight to photo a coin. Maybe a soft but bright shadow. Try next to a south facing wall with white paint. Just thinking of how you can get better details and less glare. What set up do you use for taking pics?
I am by a window and my lamp. I may try the way you suggested. The glare can be deceiving to the eye. Upgrades also to my phone drives me crazy lol. Because it changes options etc. ugh! lol! Thanks so much! I’ll see what I can do.
