NLL, I would mention the missing rolls to the head teller and/or coin vault manager at the pickup bank where you get halves. It's okay if the bank has kept a box on hand for several weeks and slowly sells the rolls, but it's not okay if you ordered $500 in halves, the $500 box arrived and they called you to let you know, and then you promptly pick up the box.

One if these things is not like the other! My bank doesn't have rolls of halves or dollar coins so they hand count them all. This is my find. I like it!:)

Well I agree. They should not be checking the boxes for enders and then selling me the box after they picked out the goodies showing on top. Every other box I get from them they don't open so why halves? The only thing that comes to find is looking for enders.

Yes, I've heard of all of these being found in rolls. When they're found, they are generally not in the best of condition (indicating intentional release) but they have been known to turn up from time to time.

These kinds of 'obsolete' coins can turn up anywhere. Example: I recall the time someone reported finding a half dime in the coin return slot of a vending machine.

    $70 CWR Dimes: Skunk

$70 CWR Nickels: Slim pickings. Only 6 pre-1960 coins, but that included a '39 and '40 that were somewhere between BU and "better than average circulated".

UNC refers to condition and not history.

I plan on it! Stopping by tomorrow because they aren't open today. They also said they have some halves in vault for me so that should be exciting

I'll second that. you can also ask that you get your box still sealed.

This will help to reduce the potential of being shorted but it won't eliminate the possibility. I've read of boxes being short that were still sealed. Sometimes mistakes are made at the packing plants from third party companies whose job it is to roll, box and ship out coins to banks and financial distribution centers.

I found one this year and it's the first I've ever found. Dad found 2 last year, though. He does about a box every other week.

According to what you said he found 2 in 26 boxes or 1 per 32,500 coins. Thats pretty good. My avarage this year is 1 in roughly 340,000 coins. Your area probably has a lot more in circulation. I believe if you search hard you will find alot more. Good luck!

Haven't searched any boxes for a while but have been finding a fair amount of silver in the register at work over the past couple weeks. Today I opened a roll of nickels and out came a 1902 V nickel. First V and oldest coin I've ever found in a roll.

And my manager said he looks for silver in the registers too so he gets to search the main store and I get to search the pharmacies'. Guess our customers aren't getting silver any time soon.

He claims to have found over 20 pounds of constitutional silver in his lifetime working retail and sold it all when silver was high.

I go through 1 to 3+ boxes a week, usually, and I've found one. Ever. Just one.

Dad lives in NH. He does seem to have a better coin supply in general. I live in MA and there are lots of collecters here, so my pickings are often slim...

OK so this isn't a proper report, but I didn't really keep track on this current box of BWR Nickels, because I've been super busy and have just been searching this box a few rolls at a time. In fact, I wasn't going to hunt at all tonight, but I got home from a dinner party and saw that i just had a few rows to fill in the box and I want to get some fresh coins tomorrow, so I put in a quick hour on it.

IIRC, the box had 2 silvers, 1943-S and 1945-P. There were more than ten 1941's, all worn flat, so not keepers. I did keep a beat down 1941-S. There were 2 1940-P and a 1940-D. Quality low. 2 46's, 3 47's, 3 48's, and one 49. Most were too poor to keep. The ones with no columns got tossed back immediately. The rest I'll check against my overflow tubes one day when I have nothing better to do. That job just keeps getting bigger...

OK, so until the 2nd to last roll, the box had 3 1938-Ps. All low quality. Then I found this! Pretty much made the box for me. :)

It's perhaps hard to see, but yes there are partial stairs. Plus side stairs!

So I went back to the bank today. Got the rest of the ikes, and 70 dollars in halves.
Nothing unusual for ikes, but 1 40%er in the halves! Not bad.
Trying to find a place that will buy the Ikes for over face because I can't hoard 137 of them

that's gorgeous. Really nice find. I love it when we can rescue that kind of quality from common circulation and a life of abuse.
