I recently purchased this Probus Antoninianus, that was described as Billon. In hand I am wondering if it is in fact 'Silvered'. If it is 'Silvered' is it Billon underneath or Bronze, because it doesn't seem to have the Bronze 'look'.

    It really is that 'shiny'.

I agree with Mat. I'm kinda attracted to silvered ants & have a couple that seem rather shiny. Don't have a Probus though.

The Probus coins from Antioch ar often found partly to fully silvered. This might be something peculiar to the alloy used there. Here are a few of my many examples from this mint.

The same can be said for the output of Probus from Tripolis

This really amazes me: Such a beautiful coin, all detail is crisp, virtually no wear. I understand time, and possible chemical reaction could cause the silver to flake off. But, if a coin has virtually remained dormant, looks like no weathering or any physical abrasion, having virtually no circulation... How would ALL of the silver be gone?

    Nice one, Chris.
Put up the other one when it arrives.

Some additional (worn) silvered Antoniniani examples of mine would be:-
