Austria: 1692 silver kreuzer of Leopold I ("The Hogmouth"), Hall mint

PCGS AU58. There was also a BU 1963 British large penny in the package, which came from my old friend Michael Swoveland of WNC Coins. Thanks, Michael!

Leopold was, to put it mildly, a rather interesting looking chap, with the famous "Habsburg Jaw" that likely resulted from family inbreeding.

It so happens I already had a Leopold the Hogmouth 3-kreuzer piece in my collection, albeit of a slightly different type. Having another, and what to do with the extra one, is a fun dilemma to have! It was a nice surprise.

Better late then never! Beautifull coin. Of all the Holy Roman Emperors/ he struck a ****load of silver/ gold coins.
When Mehmet laid seige to Vienna he turned tail and ran away/ the Polish King came to save Vienna in 1683.

Panzer, you NEVER cease to amaze me with the pieces in your collection. Honestly, I'm awestruck with the amount of impressive pieces you present for our viewing pleasure. Thank you.

And Rob, that is a beautiful Hogmouth. Kudos to your friend Michael for gifting it to you.

No, just my oldest numismatic friend. Not old as in age- he’s younger than I. What I mean is that we’ve been friends for 32 years. He’s a successful dealer with a brick-and-mortar shop now.

A lovely gift - must be a great friend that gave it to you. I love the painting of Leopold - the way he is holding the stick says: "First person to joke about my chin gets brained!"
My best Hogsmouth is this 1641 Thaler from Augsberg:
    Augsberg T 1641 1-side.JPG
This is Ferdinand III instead of Leopold I, but same Hapsburg chin.

Its way nicer then my crappy photo. The Pannonia Terra auction in 2016 had a run of every AV Dukat from Kremnitz Mint 1657-1705 all were FDC! I picked up the best deal 1677 for 1700 euros.

Great thaler! I like the city view. Yep, Ferdinand III has the same look, doesn’t he?
