I took the best pics I could but its a clear rpm, however, there is also a sideways D in the loop of the 9 in 1951. Ive never seen that before, how would that even happen?

Hello! Where you been for 3 years?
Anyways, LOL, there appears to be a common " die chip" in the loop of the "9". NEED better picture of the MM please. There are several S/S. 1951-S RPMs (varietyvista.com)
    Thank you.

No Sideways D..... What you see there is a die chip. The part of the 9 that on the die that leaves the loop open broke off leaving that area the way you see it.

Very difficult to tell on the mintmark because the picture gets VERY blurry when expanded. What I can see is alot of damage to the S, makes me less than hopeful that there's an RPM there. Better in focus pictures would help though.

I see, that makes sense now because theres also a line going down the coin from the 9 so that was the crack. Ill try to get better pics of MM

Yours is a much later die stage than the one on coppercoins. The same die gouge from the 9 to the lapel is there, MM position looks correct, and also the die crack from bust to rim.

Oh, now that I look at my 1951-S’s I can see something in the mint mark. I just never looked before!

and, my second one. I usually have only one of each date/MM, but these were both so nice I had to keep both.

Not that this helps figure out the OP’s coin, but it seems there were a lot of mangled S’s in 1951.

It’s a die chip in the loop of the 9.
