I think I wish you hadn't posted it, just in case it brings about new bidders :(. It's been on my watch list since auction 44 was aborted two months ago.

Although realistically, I can't spend that much right now. I think there's another CoinTalk member who is probably eyeing it though.

Only a little over double estimate now. I predict more unless the sand patina scares off people with money. Not all that long ago we had a thread pointing out that some of us consider it inappropriate to discuss coins in active auctions. Some of our number disagreed saying that you can still win it if you bid enough.

I'm definitely keen to grab this Annia and complete my collection of Elagabalus wives. But I'm saving for my next trip, so I will let it go.

Although some of us aren't particularly offended by people posting coins from live auctions, it's best to refrain from doing so as a courtesy to those who feel strongly about it.

Maybe it's me being a bit selfish, but my heart would sink if I saw a link to an active coin I was watching posted here.

    Good luck TIF.

I prefer that active coins of positive interest not be discussed. Of course, it's okay to point out active fakes.

I will probably go sky high tonight, I am also watching other coins, estimations at this auction are always far too low.
What I really notice is that there always not much coins from the holy land and a lot from Turkey, I know the German Turks are probably bringing them over.
The Germans also have deep pockets so sometimes difficult to win any and mostly you pay too much at the end for it.

I find the estimates basically meaningless and I don't see any value-add in their inclusion.

After more consideration, I'm not going to bid on the Annia Faustina today. Someday I hope to acquire one of hers from Roman Egypt. I'd better start saving now :greedy:.

Like I need any encouragement to trade modern money for ancient coins :D

Not this time though, although I do have another target or two today.

Nope. No new coins for me today :(

I passed on the Annia Faustina and failed to acquire the two coins I most wanted, the primary target closing for 8x estimate. As has been pointed out many times though, estimates are fantasy. The coin was extremely rare, well-struck, and very interesting. I was prepared to go high but not that high. There were at least two bidders who kept going after I quit.

Despite the crashes, I miss Pecunem's platform. Biddr's live closures are a time-consuming hassle and they appear to lead to higher prices.

Not this auction, but a recent one... I was CREAMED in bidding. Some were going 5 and 10 times estimates (and the estimates were "reasonable")! THAT gets frustrating, when I KNOW I was bidding BIG too! But, dopey ole me, I seem to like those "odd" items. Sometimes I win, but I think folks are really starting to "discover" my odd picks... Rats...

Me too, in some fashion. The lot in question went for 1,300 Euro. The patina is possibly false, but the coin is genuine and great and sold for what it was worth. I was surprised to see the separation of those two companies are they were closely associated. But the new Nauman platform seems to be like Heritage. One can pre-bid, but there will still be a 'live' auction at the end. And I sat by the computer to watch and participate. It was great fun, and though I only won two lots I dont get emotional at all. I just look, decide what I will pay, and that is all. I saw some lots start under 100 Euro and hammer over 1,000. I think thats great for the consignors and the house (something we all want when we decide to sell). BUT, yes, it is time consuming, but it is not any different from attending a live auction in person.

I don't participate in auctions if it's too much effort. I tried to use the Naumann platform once but it's too time consuming. It's behavioural economics - if it's too hard, I won't do it. And I can't see this business model working in the long term.

I was also watching it, for a small obol from Cicilia, 1500 sorry, far too much, indeed also some bronce sky high, indeed for the consignor it is great.
The Marc Ant. I liked and went to 525, that was not so bad..I thought that one will end up much higher.

I wasn't able to participate in the auction live but did have pre-bids on 4 or 5 lots. I only ended up winning one, at the opening bid of EUR 40, which I was pleasantly surprised at. On the other hand, perhaps the live bidding did contribute to my losing my other targets and now having to stomach a shipping fee that makes up 25% of my invoice total :banghead:. I won't know for sure either way, but the new platform is a convenient scapegoat :rage:.

Speaking seriously, I don't really like the new platform mainly because I find viewing the catalog with the current standing bids more cumbersome than the old platform. I suppose I'll eventually get used to it.

I think, in time, somebody innovative - maybe someone who is good at IT ;) - will come up with a platform that people prefer to use. Perhaps a venue where you can bid and browse all auctions with ease. It's a pain in the ass to register for dozens of sites with annoying auction formats. Unless the customer is at the centre of the business model, the business will eventually die. I guess an industry as old-fashioned as coin auctioning hasn't dealt with innovations like uber & the shared economy. But it will come.

In general I think the platform is not so bad, I bought a few coins in the past auctions, some that I did not want, I just pressed the button for the fun and ended up as winner.
Some I really likes, I could only manage to have 30%.
I think the NN people are laughing every day, how rich they will become to handle this without risk and just be middle man.
