    The answer to whether it is steel or copper is easy...does it stick to a magnet? If it does, it's a copper plated steel cent...if not take it to a dealer and ask (although I would be willing to bet there will be plenty of answers here soon) Welcome to CT

    Many of those 1943 S "Bronze" Cents are being sold on many websites.
    They are reproductions.. Not even worth $19.99 that they sell them for :sour:

    May I ask why would you think it’s a reproduction?

    Because a real Bronze 1943 S Cent is very impossible to find o_O

    And the rim of your Cent looks cast to me. The Reverse side does not look normal. The rim is worse on that side.

    I think this poster might be getting other posts confused. I responded to the posting he put up of the 1944 cent, where some commented that it wasn't a 1943 steel cent and it confused me. Now I see this post and think he, and others are/were confusing the two different posts?

    @Mountain Man
    Nah.. it's a totally different coin or reproduction. I think he got a hold of a few fakes and is trying to get us to authenticate them.

    Bad assumption. I’m not telling anybody to authenticate them unwillingly or pressuring anyone. I want to learn more about the coins. If u think they are a reproduction then you’re entitled to your own opinion.

    Ok.. they are impossible to find and in that condition. You're not going to get the answer you want to hear from anyone on this forum.
    I bet they will all agree with the knowledge I have shared with you.

    And I will add.. the letters are kind of mushy and the number 3 looks thick and weird.

    Ditto on the mushy lettering and reverse rim looks smoothed down.

    Continue searching and enjoy the hobby.

    Take it out of the plastic holder. Put a magnet up to it. If it sticks to the magnet it’s steel. It looks like the design on the coin is on the mushy side. It may be plated copper and again the magnet will let you know. If it doesn’t stuck to the magnet then it’s more than likely a fake. Welcome to CT.
