Love them all, just like I love your entire collection. My favorite of the above, based solely on looks, is the Apollo Karnelos (parrot).
Really nice collection of gold and electrum. I especially like the hekte of Lesbos/ Mytilene. Many years ago when I collected Greek coins, my only gold was a beautiful stater of Zeugitana showing Tanit and a horse. Long since sold in the Triton III auction. Recently looked-up the value of this issue and was astounded at the current price. Cal
Thanks Bing It was described by CNG as an "eagle". However lordmarcovan rightly pointed out it looks more like a parrot ! John
Hard not to dislike any of them, because it is gold, after all. But I like the Bull riding Tuna best.
Thanks! Its amazing how much prices have gone up/ since COVID. But generally prices have gne up in past 100 years/ three times inflation or more.
Just a small part of your entire collection, which is impressive and a visual treat when you post your new acquisitions. Of the above, the example from Lesbos with the "parrot" has the best eye appeal for me. Thanks for showing us.
@panzerman Excellent and eclectic 2023 additions in your ongoing quest for gold coins! I meant to post this when you first posted about the Kyrene AV obol: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/just-in-noble-auction-win.408884/ First, the bad news: This coin was misattributed and is actually part of a series - Naville 251-254 (None in BMC Cyrenaica). Some of the coins in the catalog are off center, but it looks the most like 253, especially the obverse. There is only one listed, from Bruder Egger auction 11/26/1909, lot 430. Here is the plate from HEIDI: https://doi.org/10.11588/diglit.19055#0053 Here is Naville 252 (slightly different dies) from Boston MFA: https://collections.mfa.org/objects...x=8624f830-7b4f-4ad0-a9cc-bacc656f32f8&idx=47 For comparison with the attribution by Noble, here is my example of Naville 233, BMC 215: Kyrene AV obol 305-277 BC 0.73 g O: head Zeus Ammon right R: head Kyrene right; ΕΓ monogram lower left Naville 233; BMC 215 (XX:17) The good news: Congratulations! You have an exceptional and well-centered example of this rare series, only 8 examples of the 4 die pairs. It would be nice if you could get any information from Noble about past collections or sale, but not likely if they did not include in the description.
Truly great coins Panza, all absolutely beautiful in there own right. I especially love the Kyrene AV obol for its fantastic artwork on such a tiny surface.
