AV Solidus 4.39g. Constantinople Mint Emperor Theodosius III 715-17AD. AV coins are rare from this Byzantine Emperor.
Seriously, forget law. I should get into landscaping. That seems to be where the gold is at. By the time I get done paying monthly software fees, rent, utilities, office supplies, the Florida Bar, continuing education classes, etc., I'm lucky if I could fit a common Byzantine solidus into my coin budget.
Amazing. Outstanding solidus. Especially the details of the loros(clothes) and the ornamented cross are the first things I catch, and not to mention the details of the face. The prices for solidus under Justinian dynasty and Heraclian dynasty are sensible, but right after the reign of Constans II (death 668) the prices for the solidus are much higher. We have to jump until the year from 800CE before the prices for solidus are at the lower end again.
ANY coin is rare from this emperor. Really nice piece; much better than the few I've seen over the years.
Just got home from work, was a real scorcher today, 35 celsius/humidex 45. Nice thing with my profession, not much overhead/ no employees to pay. Most of my clients are doctors/dentists/lawyers/teachers.... Thanks for nice comments, I am so glad that my Dad got me into this hobby when I was a kid, every time you look at a coin....we can only imagine the history it holds John
