I just had a ICG graded coin I purchased delivered and the slab is cracked. I could send it back without any problems but because I got it at a reasonable price, I’m thinking, keep it and send it to ICG for a new case. Shipping cost to ICG plus a new slab will cost me an additional $35. My question is, can I send this back to the grading service in the original case or will I have to break it out of the case? If I try taking it out myself, chances are the coin might lose its pr70 grade. If I send it to one of the other grading services, will they want the coin out of the slab or will they accept the coin in the original slab? Chances are if I remove the coin, the coin will get scratched or marked up some how! My luck! Thoughts?
I'd say your odds of crossing an ICG PR70 as a 70 at one of the other services is minimal at best. Send it back to ICG in the original holder and see what their reholder fee is. If you remove it, you'll have to pay for a complete regrade.
I would try to get a partial refund from the seller if the damaged slab was not listed in the description.
Yes, I’ve checked this approach out and it would cost me an additional $30/35 to have the coin placed in a new holder plus shipping back and forth. For $35 bucks I’ll still have a coin that would cost me around $50/75 dollars more to own. It’s a little aggravation for just a few more bucks! lol
I feel your pain. But don't crack it out when you send it back to ICG, and don't waste your time and money trying to cross it at another service. Is this an option? Worth pursuing, if so. I am curious as well, though it's obviously a modern coin, if it's a PR70.
That is nice. If the crack is bothering you, I would submit for a regrade. Maybe try to do it at a show if it's just the one coin.
the dealer offered another coin but it appears to have similar problems. He was very accomadating and sent a return postage label but refunds weren’t considered.
I don’t see the crack on that slab but if you feel it’s a problem I’d contact the seller if it wasn’t in the description. You can always send to the TPG and all you want is a new slab. Do not submit for regrading!
Nut, the crack runs over the OneDollar lettering. I’ve contacted the seller and told him I was sending to ICG for a new slab and mentioned the cost. I left any refund to his discretion! The purchase price for this piece was below most asking prices so even with the extra cost to me, I’m still ahead of the game. If the seller has any degree of fairness and honesty, he’ll send something. If not, the sun will shine somewhere. Life is too (short) and it is the season! lol Happy Holiday's to All!
Thanks. I was still able to edit it. Hahaha “Life is too shot” you say? Looks like spell check got both of us. I fixed mine.
Kill me......where's the problem? Slabed bullion is a snore to many. I personally don't see the need to do so, but I do understand that others feel the need. In the meanwhile, I'll save my dough. Crack it out and hold it in your hand (indeed in the proper way).
