I saw this auction on Ebay. This is an obvious Fake Morgan Dollar. Here is a link to the listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2665727586...w1m/5Y4QYsMQpZFg==|tkp:Bk9SR_jyvNWPYw&LH_BO=1 This seller has also sold another one of these Morgan Dollars and a Fake Silvertowne 1 ounce silver bar based on his completed items and past ratings.
Low amount of sales, but 94.1 positive sales and does not accept returns. But, he did say he refunded the person the money for the fake 1 oz. silver. To me, could there be anymore "red flags" here?
The Silvertowne bar he sold was ferromagnetic. Don’t think he refunded the buyer. More likely EBay took it back from his account. Bad boy, bad boy
Can you comment on what you are looking at that tells you it is fake? I see some obvious things when comparing photographs of a real Morgan and this photo (i.e. the angle of the nose seems off, the hair detail is wrong, etc.). Are there other things that I should be seeing? (I am trying to learn.)
Some things I notice just from the photos are the absence of nicks or bag marks even though the coin appears to have wear. An unusual off color not really silver looking patina on both sides that I've seen on many fake dollars. Also notice the weak strike on the face, the chin is almost faded into the field, yet it has strong details in other areas. These are just some things I notice at a glance. I've also seen these fake dollars in person, and the weight is usually off, or they respond to a magnet. I hope this helps some.
