    Hello everyone,
I follow some of the Numismatic related Facebook pages on different subjects such as Mint Errors, Rare Coins and Auctions.

Every day I see the most outrageous posts and ridiculous comments. I do my best to help the newbies. Some thank me and others tell me I'm wrong and that I need to get a life :hilarious:
That just shows you how much they really want to learn.. Ignorance.

I wanted to show an example of a post I read this morning. It was someone asking a question about a Cent in their possession. They wanted to know why it looked different.

Read the response given by Anthony and then read my response on the bottom!

Sort of makes you wonder if they slept through history class.

    Edit.... And writing class too!

People will say anything even if they have no idea what they're talking about :hilarious:

I hear the most amazing tripe, even at my local coin club. At the last meeting, one of the officers told me that the high price of gold is because of all the high environmental, labor and regulatory costs of mining in the U.S. I told him that while mining costs are high in the U.S., most of the world's gold is mined elsewhere where most of those costs don't apply. He didn't argue but gave me a dubious look.

For those interested: CY2022 total worldwide output was app. 3393 tonnes.
U.S. output was 172.7 tonnes or 5.1%, the fifth largest behind:
    China - 375
    Russia - 324.7
    Australia - 313.9
    Canada - 194.5

I think I will stick with Coin Talk. Surely there must be at least one that is a doubled die.

It is really hard to educate the entire world. I've given up trying. LOL

Don’t be so sure @PamR …. I never would have thought I’d know even the little bit I know now when I started here. Give yourself some credit and read lots of threads, even if you don’t post here. There is so much knowledge being generously shared around here, just read read read…:)

I've tried a few of the coin groups on facebook, some are so bad I just can't do it. I've been called a hater, a liar, and numerous other names simply because I said a coin was damaged not an error. I recently joined another where one of the admins is one of the most clueless members. I belong to two that aren't too bad, and I'll probably keep trying others.

I did join that "Rare Coin Collectors" group thinking it might actually be what it purports to be. That was the worst one I have ever seen and had to get out!

Many will never be to the levels many of you are. Some look for the fast buck. Some innocently fall into it and learn as we go. Some peek into CT one day and then never seen again.

A long time ago I came to the realization that most people are so enamored with themselves that they will never welcome any help. This is by no means limited to numismatics. I have not bothered in countless years. I also never touch social media, so between the two there are no issues.
