I am wondering if this 1989 penny could have a doubled die on the letters of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. (Different 1989 penny than other post). Some of the letters on ONE CENT also seem to be doubled. Is this worth anything?
No doubled die. The 1989 cent is especially notorious for that anomaly you are seeing. This happened a lot around the date of the coin, too.
I have found those and posed the same question and received the same correct answer. I kept them and made notes on the 2x2 as to what was going on so I could use them as reference and teaching when others are found. I learn something almost every time I log onto CT. People here are knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge.
The last doubled die I found was in May 2016. I go through a box per week and haven't found one since. It is a 1989-D. I am posting a few pics. You would not recognize it as such if you were looking for extreme rotated hub doubling. Most of them show as extra thickness. Here is a link to known 1989 doubled dies. http://www.coppercoins.com/diesearch.php?date=1989&page=1 mine is 1989D ddr-008. The chances of finding an unlisted Doubled die are very small. Study the websites so you will know what to look for.
