Just pulled a MS 1883 S PL Morgan in an auction. I maxed the juice out and blew out the late bidders!! Can't wait to get it. If it grades out like I think it could, might make hundreds off this coin. It's raw, that's why it's a sleeper. Maybe a 500% gain even after grading fees. I'm pumped. I'm so tired of getting beat at the 2 minute warning. Even if not, I got a HUGE bargain, :D

Good luck with your step up.
    Looking forward to seeing it.

I watched this ones for days and laid in the weeds until the last hour of the auction. I'm learning how the game is played. I was willing to pay several hundred over my last bid and made that my max price. That's how sure I was I wanted this. Turns out it was overkill, but that's the good thing. They kept trying to outbid at the last moment and kept getting knocked down, didn't have to lift a finger. Time expired on them. I'm stoked. My first big win at the auction game. :) I ended up paying 300 hundred lower than I was willing to go. Coin looks like MS60 minimum, and PL, from the photos. Seller has a 99% rating.

I'll post it up when I get it. So as with all raw coins, we'll see? This one was well worth the risk, rated seller, tough date in that grade and PL coin. I'm stoked! What I do not understand was no reserve? I think that's a risk sellers do to generate clicks and with it, more competition. I think this backfired on them. :)

I wish you the best with this coin but without it photo I’ll hold any and all of my comments. I look forward to seeing this once you receive it.

Their photos for this are terrible. But still PL coin, even if bag marked at worst. Even at AU 58 I ride this like I stole it. I think it's MS60 at worst? Even if I completely whiff, I'm ahead of the game unless it's counterfeit, which it's not. :) Their photos for this are seriously lacking. I'm horrible at photography but they didn't even try. auctionking1.jpg auctionking2.jpg

I hope you have better luck than me, I once sent a Morgan that I though was almost perfect to NGC to get graded and I was expecting at least an MS60 but it came back as UNC Details - Cleaned, I only paid $50 for the coin originally but still..

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping I'm right about this one. At worst, I'm at break even. At best, maybe 700-800 ahead of the game even after all of the garbage of grading and waiting. There were willing buyers lined up at the well at the end, I'm sure some unhappy campers, I just outflanked them "this time". We'll see when it gets here, and either I'll be tickled or chalk it up to a learning experience, but I can return it if not happy.

The coin dealer that REALLY annoys me is the one who says "from a bank vault haul" and puts a proof coin on the ad but won't verify that is the coin they are selling you. I have harassed that seller until they won't even respond to an offer anymore from me. LOL

The photos are juiced and doctored.

I don't know the best method to courteously respond, but I will try:

    I concur a Coup occurred.....for the Seller.

I'm thinking happy thoughts for ya....but, tibor, cutler and P&Grinin, are correct. :sorry:
Auctionking and the others mentioned unfortunately do "Juice" their photos. I won't even open their pages, just scroll right by all of them. I buy a fair amount of Morgans and Peace $s, if I see a blurry or "Juiced photo, I just keep scrolling. Good luck, hope it turns out a plus for you. I would be really interested in seeing what you get.

Buying coins from images like that is way too risky for me. There is already enough risk in this hobby.

For those seeing a juiced photo, I don’t disagree but I want to check if I’m seeing the right things that make me agree. I’m guessing the fields have been adjusted to make them look more white. Is the remnant of the of the original field up against the device a good clue that the field has been altered?

These type of photos usually wash out the radial die flow lines, and attempt to make the coin look PL. Not that there isn't a slight amount of mirrors from the field just that there is not enough to warrant a PL designation. Notice the blue tones on the devices, and then corresponding color and tone in areas of the field. That indicates that the fields are also frosty and not so much mirrored.
