He did, it came back AU details, Bent. We are working on helping him understand that bent means the coin is damaged. I’m also kind of curious about there being no mention of missing plating on the label and the looking chocolate brown in the photo.
Interesting exchange, @trussxx1 may I ask why you sent the coin in? The date and condition do not warrant slabbing it.
Actually, he has already sent it twice, once to PCGS and once to NGC. I've already given him advice several times, if he refuses to listen to logic though, I feel he may as well keep sending it.
I hate to see people ignoring good advice, but yeah the density is strong with this one. There’s a big difference between that’s a cool coin, I’ll stick in a 2x2 and hold on to it and turning it into your white whale. This one is definitely entering Moby Dick territory. And I can’t believe I complete missed there were two submissions… dang.
The opinions I received are just that, Opinions. In any other circumstance, "Good advice." I intended to prove PCGS was incorrect in claiming all (6) coins I submitted were (counterfeit.) This was not the first time I had a problem with PCGS grading. I purchased a set of American eagles from eBay All graded MS69 dating from 1986 to 2008. The eBay photos did not show the coins had white. After receiving the coins from eBay I was shocked to see all of them (both sides) were spotted. I contacted PCGS they said. "We stand behind our grade of MS69 they claimed the spots were from the US Mint washing process. PCGS knew there was a problem before they were encapsulate. They refuse to discuss how the white spots effected eye appeal or the aesthetic value of the coins. eBay was kind enough to have the seller refund my money after I returned the coins to him. Case in point: PCGS did a loused job grading my (6) coins. I was out to prove that they were in error. By sending the coins to NGC and ANACs who graded (4) of the (6) coins. Only two were found counterfeit. I know I was spending extra funds I filed a dispute with AMEX who approve my dispute and credited my account $178. Money was not an issue, Value, integrity and customer service is. Note: After filing a dispute PCGS cancelled my account. Go to show just they treat customers. They cater to volume dealers and don't give a damn about the small collectors. Thanks for your interest in my post. Best regards, Tony
This has nothing to do with a small collector versus dealers. THe problem is you not caring to understand that many Eagles are spotted and do also receive high grades, PCGS is not at fault. Therefore, you keep shooting yourself in the foot by playing ignorant. I would have cancelled your account also. You only read what you want to hear. The folks here have given you the definitions and you still think you are right. Shaking head.
What are you trying to prove that coin purchases are only based on the grade from a professional grading service. Are you not considering eye appeal or how white spots may affect coin value. If someone goes into a coin store and has two option to purchase one of two coins. One with white spots all over it and one with the same grade with no white spots similar to thousands the come out of the U.S. mint. I purchase Proof and Unc Silver Eagles from 1986 to date from the U.S. Mint and have never received one covered in white spots. I don't know about you but I would not purchase the spotted coin. If this is a forum open for discussion why are you threatening to cancel my account. If you don't like my post don't read them and please stop trying to impose you opinions on me.
Interesting comment but is doesn't make any sense. Why do you grind coins? What purpose does it serve? I've inspected the coin under an electronic microscope The edges of the missing plating stand straight up from the surface, there are no grind marks anywhere on the coin. I have experience with machine shop tools and the damage on the coin I have does not show any signs of tooling.
I’m the one who typically does the laundry in my household and if I miss change in pockets, they’ll be laundered too. Some coins will come to rest between the fixed and rotating basin. Left there a cycle or two, the coins mainly wear on the side facing the spinning drum. Change I’ve collected out of the washer range from cents to quarters. I’ll ’manufacture’ these specimens on-and-off during the year.
trussxx1, posted: "If you don't like my post don't read them and please stop trying to impose you [your] opinions on me." I must be missing something posted by our long-time numismatist OP: What's you [your] opinion? Mint Error Altered
@trussxx1 i must have missed the person threatening to close your coin talk account…. and some info on the spots… https://www.coinworld.com/news/precious-metals/spotting-on-silver-american-eagles-remains-a-.html
I guess it could be bent ( damaged) in the mint handling, but it is not provable, so there is nothing there worth anything, If it was bent outside of the mint it is altered, but again, no value beyond a cent. I was at a large coin and other collectibles shop yesterday and in came 3 framed low numbered famous athlete photos, autographed without grading info as to being authentic. The dealer wanted to send off for grading them first (they were arguing/discussing) who would pay for the grading of a poster that would sell for over $2500 each. Eventually the customer walked out to a very nice automobile but very irritated. I think he will eventually come back to the shop. buying /selling things can be interesting to watch. Jim
I said if I was PCGS, I would do the same thing they did and not think twice. One never knows when a white spot shows up on a coin. Any type of coin that has PL surfaces is susceptible to any type of non intentional contact. These Eagles often had spots show up after they were slabbed. I am the last to troll you, or even call for you to be banned. It's not my style. What I have learned is that there is many a years of knowledge on this Forum. We don't play the piggyback game of pile it on to the newbie. If one of us doesn't give the right information, the next will chime in and correct the record. Welcome to CT, the 83D is damaged. I live here in Denver and see these quite regularly from all years. All that I have found like the one posted is damaged in one way or another.
